Cavaliers claim Shaun Livingston off waivers, release Sloan

Shaun Livingston was let go by the Washington Wizards last week but got a Christmas Day gift from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cleveland claimed him off waivers and Livingston is going to get the chance to be Kyrie Irving’s backup, reports the Beacon Journal. Right now that job often falls to rookie Dion Waiters, who like Livingston is really a combo guard. It’s Livingston’s job if he can claim it as Jeremy Pargo has clearly lost favor with coach Byron Scott and rarely sees action.

Lest you think he’s a savior Cavs fans, Livingston was just cut by the Wizards in favor of Shelvin Mack. Let that sink in.

Livingston is averaging 3.7 points a game on 39.2 percent shooting and he has no three ball to speak of. He has some court vision but also had a PER of 8.3 in Washington.

But he’s going to get a shot in Cleveland.

To make room for Livingston, the Cavaliers waived Donald Sloan.
