Quote of the Day: LeBron praises Durant and his improvement

Dec 24, 2012, 12:55 PM EDT

Miami Heat's James is guarded by Oklahoma City Thunder's Durant during the first quarter in Game 1 of the NBA basketball finals in Oklahoma City Reuters

“I think he’s a better player. He continues to get better.”

LeBron James speaking of Kevin Durant, via Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman.

And LeBron is right — what makes Oklahoma City better this year than last is that Durant is better, Russell Westbrook is better, Serge Ibaka is better and so on and so on. This is a young team with their players on a steep improvement curve every season. (It certainly wasn’t the James Harden trade, although Kevin Martin has fit in well.)

The day before their finals rematch, the Heat players were praising the Thunder across the board. There was a lot of respect there in pregame quotes.

One NBA championship and now he is a talent evaluator. I never remember Jordan praises Ewing or Barkley on their improvement. He was too busy golfing, gambling and doing everything in his power to destroy them on the court. Man this game has changed for the worst. I miss it when players/ teams actually disliked each other.

Jordan and Barkley were friends in the 1990’s.

If you’re going to reminisce about basketball history, at least try to get it right.
