PBT Extra: Previewing Knicks vs. Lakers Christmas Day game

Dec 24, 2012, 8:00 PM EST

This video is no longer available. Click here to watch more NBC Sports videos!

When they met a couple of weeks ago the Knicks blew the Lakers out of Madison Square Garden. If the Knicks move the ball like that again, and if the  Lakers defensive rotations are just as bad, the outcome will be the same. We’ll see how much Steve Nash and Pau Gasol can change that first outcome.

Kay Adams and I talk a little about this one and who has been more key for the Knicks, Raymond Felton or Jason Kidd.

Whoever takes less shots between Melo and Mamba will win. Book it.

    • jimeejohnson - Dec 24, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Whoever takes more than 40 shots unless it goes into overtime will lose it, ok?

      • davidly - Dec 24, 2012 at 10:23 PM

Sure, but they might both take more than 40 shots:-/

    • sdlakerfan - Dec 25, 2012 at 2:07 AM

Dream on…LA is turning the corner and coming off a big win and will be up for the xmas game. Going to be a close hard fought game. Will be within 10 pts either way.

      • dannymac17 - Dec 25, 2012 at 11:25 AM

Turning the corner with still little amounts of defense and beating soft teams by 1-2 points? get outta here.

      • sdlakerfan - Dec 25, 2012 at 4:17 PM

any coments on the first half dannymac? you get outta here.

      • sdlakerfan - Dec 25, 2012 at 5:53 PM

How’s that taste dannymac? Just another win vs a soft team?

      • dannymac17 - Dec 25, 2012 at 8:44 PM

Oh, you won at home as expected? Look at your road record and remind yourself why you have the record you have. You cretin.

    • manchestermiracle - Dec 25, 2012 at 7:02 PM

Yo, bucs, don’t quit the day job because you have no future whatsoever in prognosticating.

  4. eflem80 - Dec 25, 2012 at 12:18 AM

Melo hasn’t taken more than 30 shots in a game all season…..Kobe has 3 times.

    • davidly - Dec 25, 2012 at 8:04 AM

Good point. They both average the same number of shots per game, though.

  5. cosanostra71 - Dec 25, 2012 at 2:32 AM

    Go Lakers!

  6. dirtydavis - Dec 25, 2012 at 2:50 AM

    Lakers win by 6

    • manchestermiracle - Dec 25, 2012 at 7:03 PM

Dead on, davis. You didn’t happen to put a little Christmas money on that, did you? You’d be lookin’ pretty damn good right now if you did….

  7. fanofevilempire - Dec 25, 2012 at 7:36 AM

The thing with Melo is he doesn’t have to take 30 shots every game.
The thing with Kobe is he often has to take more than 30 shots.
I have no problem either way, they do what they do.
I will enjoy this game, my two favorite teams and my two favorite players.

    Enjoy ALL the games fellas………………………..

  8. abchome - Dec 25, 2012 at 7:51 AM

Kobe needs 29 points to surpass Oscar Robertson’s Christmas record for total points scored (377).

  9. omniusprime - Dec 25, 2012 at 8:45 AM

What’s wrong with this Christmas Day game picture? The New York Knicks don’t belong playing the Lakers on Christmas Day is what’s wrong. Where did the annual Lakers – Celtics Christmas Day game go? The Knicks are not the Lakers rival and this game sucks because Melo isn’t a match for Kobe.

I just hope the Laker’s talent on the floor overcomes their total lack of talent in the coaching seat. Dumbtoni’s offense has been pathetic, give Kobe the ball and let him shoot lights out. Can that moron figure out how to properly use Pau Gasol finally? Will Ancient Nash look old and decrepit trying to play at defense? Will Howard wake up and play like the All Star he’s supposed to be?

Go Lakers!!! Go Kobe!!! Fire Dumbtoni!!! We Want Phil!!!

    • damnyankee13 - Dec 25, 2012 at 9:51 AM

da Lakers!!!!!pro basketball’s version of the ny yankees, tho wanna bees. who the hell are the Fakers to be favored to to play on christmas day? Who the hell are the celtics? who the the hell are you to say that is a must? What is a must is the ‘ luck of the draw” which the knicks have this year. The knicks are playing great so far this season and the fakers are playing like knick wannabees. If I am wrong, check out the respective records

      • manchestermiracle - Dec 26, 2012 at 1:07 AM

Sez the guy who’s team hasn’t won a title since 1973. Were you even alive to see it? “Knick wannabes?” Why the hell would the team with 16 titles “wanna be” anything like the team with all of two? I guess that because the Knicks have played the most games on Xmas day (48) you think they should be a “must,” but they’re record is 22-26. Talk about “wanna be.”

  10. dysraw1 - Dec 25, 2012 at 9:39 AM

today i like our chances simply because of J Kidd the veteran leader as not been shooting as well as early on but continues to make everyone better around him.

  11. damnyankee13 - Dec 25, 2012 at 9:55 AM

Ought to be a great game, if the knicks play the way they have been and the lakers play up to their potential. I dont know, but with an aging team….. the knicks have an older team also, so whats the difference?
    Knicks win.

  12. thelakeshow562 - Dec 26, 2012 at 1:53 PM

the lake show at its best, best i’ve seen the Lakers all season
