Sixers Doug Collins owes a lot of people Big Macs

Dec 22, 2012, 7:31 PM EDT

Fans love the food give-a-ways. “We want ta-cos” chants and people yelling for pizza are the norm.

In Philadelphia, the giveaway is Big Macs — if the Sixers win and score 100 points everyone gets a free Big Mac coupon.

Which brings us to the video above. Philly has 99 points and is going to beat a Hawks team with 80. There are 23.7 seconds left and Philly doesn’t need to shoot again. Old school Doug Collins tells his players to dribble it out. The best part of the video is watching Evan Turner pointing at Collins and telling the fans it’s not his call. Great video via the 700 Level.

Then, via Dan Gelston of the AP, we have this tweet (thanks to Deadspin):

I wasn’t at that game, but if I see Doug Collins around town somewhere I am going to make him buy a Big Mac on the spot.

Fans must understand that it is a matter of sportsmanship.

      Comment-FAIL.

It’s entertainment and it’s about giving the fans a good experience. 18,000+ people leave the arena feeling really good about their experience if he lets them score and it’s an afterthought for the other team by the time they board the plane. Collins erred here.

Amen to that. Give the people what they want. A little good will goes a long way. Any opponent would understand that. If not Sweet Lou could break it down for them.

Geez, Kurt, I’m pretty sure the plural is spelled Big Macseses.

So Collins owes the 7 fans Big Macs? That’s about the average attendance for sixers games it seems

  4. tfoz5150 - Dec 22, 2012 at 10:48 PM

    That was a poor shot.

If Collins truly paid the bill for all the Big Macs, that’s a classy move.

Thank Collins for adding two days to your life, fans, for the Big Mac you didn’t eat.

Huge missed opportunity for the NBA AND McDonald’s to give away something a bit healthier from their menu.

does McDonald’s have anything healthier? even their salads (with meat) has fat and added sugar in it.

Doug didn’t want the fans to ruin their dinner with Big Macs.
