Reports: Steve Nash will play when Lakers visit Warriors on Saturday

It’s been an epic struggle for the Lakers this season. But we may be reaching the point where things might finally begin to turn in the right direction.

With expectations at a “championship-or-bust” level after the offseason acquisitions of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash, and deservedly so, a 12-14 record in Los Angeles is simply unacceptable.

The slow start was enough for management to fire its head coach, and although the team still has yet to find a measure of consistency while showing sustained improvement over a period of time, a two-time MVP’s return to the lineup may just begin to change all of that.

Steve Nash is expected to play on Saturday when the Lakers visit Oakland to take on the Warriors, according to multiple reports, including the one from Sam Amick of USA Today.

Nash had said he’d definitely be back for the Christmas Day matchup against the New York Knicks at Staples Center, but after going through some full practices, he appears ready to test the leg he fractured back on Oct. 31.

Nash has missed the Lakers’ last 24 games with that non-displaced fracture, the most games he’s missed in any season since he was a member of the Dallas Mavericks back in 2000.
