Report: Pistons shopping seldom-used Austin Daye

There was a time when Austin Daye was thought part of the future being build from the ground up in Detroit. They have Greg Monroe. They have Andre Drummond. Another young forward makes that something to build around.

But it sounds like the Pistons are throwing in the towel on Daye.

You can say that because he has stepped on the court for only six Pistons games this season. Or, because they are shopping him around, reports Marc Spears at Yahoo Sports. Something he snuck into his power rankings this week.

Good luck moving him. When the team trying to move him doesn’t play him, it’s not a good sign.

Daye is in the final year of his rookie deal, making just shy of $3 million. At the end of the year the Pistons could extend a qualifying offer so they retain his rights, but the more likely option is they let him just walk and see if someone else wants him. Some team will take a low-dollar risk on a 6’11” forward with his length and athleticism, but at this point Daye is going to have to prove he belongs.
