Garnett is still balling but nowhere near the level as last year. In the early stages when Doc moved him to the 5 spot last year he was a monster. He wore down the stretch but when he did have legs he was on beast mode.

That’s nonsense. He was brought in to provide both. If they were only looking for a defensive role player they couldve picked a Keith Bogans type and not given the mid level exception. His value was that he could hit 3′s AND defend. I have watched the C’s game all year and if you never saw him play you would say he was an average defender at best this year.

Courtney Lee was brought in to replace Bradley while he was injured. His main role is defense, not something that will fill up the box score.

You got that right with the Garnett part. He might not put up the stats that he did years ago, but look at the numbers on how the team performs when he’s on the court vs. when he’s not on the court.

My point is just that it is way to early in the season to judge a veteran team like the Celtics or Lakers who are both playing without key injured players. Historically, the Celtics are a team that kicks it into high gear when it counts, which is ultra frustrating for a fan for the majority of the season.

Their best bets are on the team right now. If by the end of the season Avery and Jeff Green aren’t integral parts of the Celtics rotation and contributing heavily they will get bounced badly come playoff time.

If ANYTHING happens to Garnett this team will fall apart.

This is awfully similar to how the Celtics looked early on last year. Doc is too good a coach and there is too much talent for them not to round into form. I still have them as a top 4 seed in the East, and the Heat and Knicks will cross their respective fingers, hoping the other one has to deal with that curmudgeonly leprechaun.

Um…..yeah. Nobody expected them to be #1 seed in the East. Nobody expected them to suck.
They’re alright. Not alright in a groovy, Matthew McConnaughey kind of way.
Alright in a Janine Garofolo, circa 1993 kind of way. Seen worse. Seen better.

Lee isn’t playing as badly as those numbers show. He’s in a shooting slump but is still a plus defender who can slash to the basket. I’d love to keep him, but Bradley does the same things only better. If he can get us a solid big, pull the trigger.

Teams nowadays can’t get a quality big-man for a quality guard, given the lack of talented big-men in the league.
And right now, Courtney Lee isn’t playing like a quality guard, so I don’t see this working out for Boston.

Their best bet is for guys like Jared Sullinger to keep developing.

Kinda like they were who you thought they were last year, when they hovered around .500 and below before the end of the season. Celtics are nowhere near dominant so far this year, but then again I didn’t realize that playoff seedings were decided in mid-December.

I could have sworn Boston fans around here were touting Courtney Lee as a MAJOR upgrade with Terry over Ray Allen. Ainge gambled badly on Lee who has been nothing but a slightly above average guard his entire career.

With Lee playing as terrible as he is right now, if Avery can’t stay healthy, down the stretch the Celtics are going to be in trouble.

Not to mention all the “don’t forget we didn’t have Chris Wilcox and Jeff Green vs the Heat” NONSENSE….
