I don’t understand why they fired Mike Brown.. I think they expected to bring Phil back and then they thought they’d go with the cheaper number 2 guy..

Might have been a big mistake, should’ve kept Brown for at least a few more weeks..

Kurt, he may make a lot of money, but his contract is only until the end of next season.

If I were a team like Denver, I’d try to work a deal for Gasol. They have absolutely nobody that can get buckets in the post. It’s not like Denver is going to do much this year, and most likely won’t next year either.

I’d take a shot at it. If it doesn’t work out, his contract expires and you free up cap space. Or, you can trade him as an expiring contract to some team that’s contending.

I agree there’s a market for Gasol albeit limited. And they do need to dump his salary. The guy who said he didn’t start sucking right after the Olympics hit it on the head. 32 is not old for any position and centers have longer careers than any other position. Toronto and Minnesota are two possibilities. He would be much better on another team.

Bickerstaff was 4-1 with a close loss to Spurs on a last second shot. Brown and Dantoni are 5 – 11. As soon as Brown left, it seemed they had more spring in their game. Dantoni has got them back in the funk.

Why on earth is Kobe baffled I ask?

The team is in disarray, can’t play a lick of defense, spent all their money and hopes on a 4 all-star(not) group, no bench, no consistent 3 pr shooters, their coach is not defensively or very offensively minded( although quite offensive) shall I continue?

Put it this way, if the Lakers lose 3 or 4 games this road trip and the top 5 in the West keep up their current place you can slowly see the term “mathematically eliminated” start to come into the headlines. I’ve said this since the preseason, I would rather have this team make it to the playoffs so they may be dismantled by the real LA team and shut up the loudmouth, self entitling, title is ours this year Laker fans once and for all.

Kobe famously has a no-trade contract, and I doubt he’d want to leave the franchise he’s been with for 17 years.

Kobe is famously paid a huge amount of money and has openly talked about retirement, so any team that trades for him is getting a productive (but very expensive) player who is close to retirement.

Lakers have no guard depth right now, and I don’t exactly see them getting a premier guard by trading Kobe.

So a Kobe trade wouldn’t work for the Lakers or the other teams, and Kobe would probably veto any trade.

Ok, Jim Buss wants a return to showtime, so do I. The problem with that is Magic is 52 now and owns a major league baseball team so he probably doesn’t have time. Showtime was the perfect storm. The greatest PG of all-time, players that got out and ran, the best finisher in Worthy, the best coach at the time in Pat Riley. And don’t forget if they couldn’t get the bucket in transition, they just happen to have the greatest half court player Kareem to take his place in the post and launch the most unstoppable shot. You just can’t recreate that because you’d like to see it again. I don’t know what the d’ Antoni system is but it looks like you pass the ball until it gets tip Kobe then everyone else stand and watch while he forces another shot. The triangle was a better choice for thus team because it promotes ball movement which the Lakers don’t do. The trouble with this team starts at the top with you Jimmy because your ego is getting in the way of your job, dantoni cause you don’t have the back bone to make Kobe pass the ball do you’re hoping Nash can do it for you when he returns and Kobe because as always you lack leadership skills as well as the ability to make those around you better so instead you force shot after shot to make sure you get yours. The fact that the team is 1-10 when you score 30 plus is not a coincidence. Really would you wanna hustle and play defense if you had to watch 1 team mate take all the shots? How about a players only meeting Kobe? I know I know you scored 42 last night, at least you got yours.

I think a team like the Raptors would happily trade for him. His contract doesn’t make sense from a basketball standpoint maybe but from a business perspective, sure. People will pay to see Kobe put up 40 a night even on a bad team, and his jersey is still a top seller.

Not that it will happen, but I think there is some market there. Kobe is an international superstar after all.

In my opinion, they do not need to run any plays for Dwight Howard. He needs to get his points on offensive rebounds, in transition, and dump offs at the basket (easy high percentage shots). He needs to defend and rebound period. I don’t think a team can win with him being “the man”. Thought he would do well with a dominant guard. What could the Lakers get for him in a trade? Stay on him Kobe! Toughen him up!!

There’s a market for Gasol. He’s a 7 footer, who can play the PF or C position, can skill, pass, rebound, and is a decent enough defender.

There’s always a market for someone like that. And if he’s the #2 on the team, he’s incredibly good. Did you guys see him play in the Olympics? He was outstanding. He didn’t start sucking immediately after the Olympics finished.

Nobody will trade for Kobe and his albatross of a contract. He’s due over 30 mil next year, and still has a lot of money left for this year, but those are basketball reasons.

The Lakers wouldn’t trade Bryant for business reasons. He generates A LOT of revenue for the team, much more than he’s paid.

If you are right & no one wants to trade for Gasol, then why do we constantly hear about all these trades offered for Gasol? Who would take Gasol? Like you said, this isn’t 2007, he’s older, softer, slower, and makes 20 million a year. He’s not the type of guy that is going to turn a bad team in to a title contender if he just walks in, let alone if they give up young talent to get him. Same with a mediocre team. He’s not good enough to off set, and improve your team if you give up any major talent for him.

At this point, if the Lakers want to move Gasol, it would just be a salary dump. They have no leverage in trading him. He can hardly stay on the court, and isn’t a game changer anymore when he does. But he still gets paid like he is. Bottom line, he only gets moved if the Lakers feel it’s addition by subtraction. I don’t see why they would
