Byron Scott fined $25K for criticizing officials after loss to Timberwolves

Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott has been fined $25,000 for public criticism of officiating, the league announced via official release.

The comments were made following Cleveland’s loss to the Timberwolves in Minnesota on Friday, a game in which they managed to score just 73 points, but were outshot at the free throw line by their opponent 35-9, and were outscored there 27-6.

Scott tried to explain what he felt was the reason his team lost afterward, and even mentioned the fact that he was attempting to do so without drawing the ire of the league office.

“I’m trying to figure out a way to say this without getting fined,” coach Byron Scott said of the officiating. “It was that bad. It really was. It was that bad. I mean I understand we’re playing in Minnesota, but 35-9, we went to the basket just as much as they did. I think we had 38 attempts in the paint to their 34, we get nine free throws, I think that speaks for itself.”

Had Scott actually let it speak for itself, he’d be $25,000 richer.
