The average fan might look at amare and think he’s a good fit for the lakers because he played well with nash in D’antoni’s offense. I love amar’e but his biggest strength was being a great finisher at the rim, and it’s sad because he can’t do it anymore. And when amar’e can’t finish at the rim anymore, what do you have left?

Any time the Wolves are mentioned in trade talks I get very nervous. There hasn’t been a time when the Wolves haven’t been fleeced in a trade outside of the Mayo for Love deal. I still believe that Williams can be a star in the league. Pekovic is a up and coming big man. Pau is great but he’s getting older. This would make no sense, which knowing the T-Wolves, means it’s indeed what they were offering. Endless rebuilding….

edit: plenty of people who thought Gasol was the weak link

Some people think he was the problem vs. the Mavs, failing to admit, one, just how good the Mavs were and, two, the fact that most of the Lakers’ squad pooped just a tiny bit in their big-boy pants in that series.

I didn’t say it was logical. Neither did Kurt. A lot of sports fans have crazy opinions about everything.

For example: There were plenty of people who didn’t think Gasol was the weak link as far as being able to get past the Celtics was concerned. Just because you and I and others on this site don’t think so does not preclude their existence.

Amare for Pau straight up.

D’Antoni & Nash get the PF back they already have had success with. The contracts match up. And the Knicks become favorites in the East.

I can’t think of another trade that actually makes sense (unless you get into three team deals/deals that don’t benefit anyone but the Lakers).

Why would the Wolves give up three players for a 32 year old? Not saying they wouldn’t. But, if they did, it would undo all of the work they have done to build a complete roster (once everyone is healthy).

What about a Gasol and a few first round picks for Josh Smith and Devin Harris. Horford would be able to move to his true position (Power Forward), and at the same time the Hawks would have a few more first round picks while the Lakers would get the perfect Power Forward for Mike D’Antoni system, they’d also have an elite defensive front court, and a backup poing guard so when Nash comes back he doesn’t have to play as many minutes.

Except the year they lost in the finals Bynum was injured mid-season and didn’t play in the playoffs. And besides that, hadn’t blossomed. Why would “plenty” of people say Bynum’s enough when he didn’t even play?

I liked what Bill Simmons said to Zach Lowe (who writes for Grantland; best NBA writer, in my opinion) on his lastest podcast: Gasol dominated the low-post in the Olympics against a very good American team. This was when his brother Marc was on the bench. In other words, Gasol is very good as a 5 and the Lakers are asking him to play out of position.

Waiting for Nash to return in order to see how they mesh is necessary, but the more pressing need, I think, is to figure out ways to get Gasol more minutes at the 5. As was the case when Odom was the team, the Lakers are strange in that their best lineups might not feature their five best guys. It’s a high-quality problem to have–they have two great centers. But it is a problem and I do hope that D’antoni figures out how to make it work for them.

Gasol’s a fantastic player, way better than his season numbers suggests. As a fan, it’s a shame to watch him mainly shoot 17-foot elbow jumpers when he could do a lot more. I wonder if David Stern would consider a fine…

The "soft" accusation resonated plenty loud after they lost in the finals. There were plenty of Lakers' fans who thought Bynum and Odom were enough--or any variation thereof, and that they should deal Pau for another point guard. Just for the record: Plenty could mean a hundred out of a thousand. The world doesn't owe you any links.

I believe that the raptors would offer a combination or Bargnani, Calderon, and Kleiza, and that the T’Wolves would offer Pekovic, Derrick Williams, and Ridnour. I’m not sure if it’s all three of those players or what. I want lakers to keep pau, but the deal with the Raptors is very interesting.

I think the ideal scenario for the Lakers is that Pau returns to full strength. I’m a huge Pau fan, but his knees looked like they were bothering him the last few games, especially on defense. He was also getting his shot blocked more than I can remember. When healthy I still think Pau, Howard, and Kobe are the best combination of three players in the league, and their skill sets fit very well together. I’m not worried about Pau’s talent or fitting in with the offense, I really am just hoping that his knees are ok after this rest.
