Rockets broadcaster says Lakers ‘pooped their big boy pants’ after losing in Houston

Dec 5, 2012, 12:27 PM EDT

After the Lakers fell at home on Sunday to the Orlando Magic, Kobe Bryant was quoted as saying that Pau Gasol needed to “put on his big boy pants” and start playing with a little more toughness.

Gasol missed the Lakers loss in Houston on Tuesday due to tendinitis in his knees, but the Rockets radio broadcaster didn’t miss an opportunity to work in Bryant’s quote in ripping L.A. immediately following his team’s victory.

“The game is over! The game is over,“ shouted Craig Ackerman, who calls the games on the radio for the Rockets. “The Lakers have just pooped their big boy pants and the Rockets have come from 17 down to win it, 107-105.”

Each team’s local broadcasting crew calls its games with varying degrees of homerism, depending on how much is tolerated or encouraged by the organization. It can be annoying if you’re just a fan of the league in general trying to catch a game on League Pass, but in this case, it’s hard to argue that the call was anything but a classic.

    AHAHAHA! Classic.

A very colorful way to put the Lakers loss to the lowly Rockets last night but the Lakers have been pooping their big boy pants the whole preseason and season. Of course the poop in the Laker’s big boy pants are the two most incompetent coaches ever to disgrace the NBA, Clueless Clown Brown and Dumbtoni. We got one brown stain out of their big boy pants when Brown was properly fired only to be replaced by another brown stain when Dumbtoni was hired by the little idiot buss boy. Come to think of it the little idiot buss boy is the biggest poop stain in the Laker’s pants, time to wash him out. Sounds like a job for Jeanie Buss, she certainly could run the Lakers better than her idiot brother.

I think Kobe missed the body part about Pau, instead of putting on his big boy pants Pau needs to put on knee braces. I sure hope his knees heal quickly.

Fire Dumbtoni!!! Fire the little idiot buss boy!!! We Want Phil!!!

“lowly Rockets”??? A team that has all new members aside from Parsons and Patterson, a young roster full of potential, a superstar in James Harden, missing their head coach due to sad circumstances, max cap space and a creative GM who takes pride in putting a TEAM on the floor…doesn’t seem lowly to me. By the way, this Rockets team that’s been together for about a month is 9-8.

Exactly Daniel. 9-8 is better than 8-10 and any excuses Laker fans want to use can also be used by the Rockets. We have a substitute coach for cripes sake! Bottom line is Greg Smith outplayed both of the Lakers’ bigs late in the game. Toney Douglas (who keeps stealing Lin’s crunch time minutes) was great all game. Let’s not sit here and act like the Lakers gave Houston a gift. Players play. You can blame the coaches all day but players play. Sure, D’Antoni doesn’t coach defense but Mike Brown did. You are telling me the Lakers all of a sudden forgot to play defense? I’m not saying the Rockets are more talented than L.A., but they were the better team last night.

I love this team. I love that Harden is crushing it here and I love that they are doing so well w/o their head coach. Keep it up!

Phil’s not walking through that door. Get used to it.

It’s guys like you that make the rest of us dislike Laker fans. Come on how old are you? “Dumbtoni”? “Clown Brown”? Are you 10? If you think Jackson makes a difference on this team you are insane. He wasn’t that good last time he was there coaching and I imagine the result won’t be much different this time around if he were back.

Omnius is a broken record. His comments are always the same. He makes Laker fans hate Laker fans too.

I don’t know that I’d call it a “classic” call, but it certainly was hilarious!

Every Laker Player and fan needs to put on some Depends.

Jeanie Buss really does need to take over this franchise. I’m really depressed as a Lakers fan.

To the ignorant little troll who made the comment that Jackson wasn’t so good, he won the championship back-to-back in 2009 and 2010, bringing his total to ELEVEN championships. Soooo sorry the guy wasn’t able to go out with a FOURTH three-peat in 2011 to satisfy you.

This says much more about what the Lakers didn’t do than what the Rockets did do. Great job by the Adam Sandler of announcers in appealing to the sophomoric humor of fans. Chick Hearn is turning over in his grave.
