Yes, he needed more games. But if you want to judge how fast a player scored his points, a better benchmark would be the total number of minutes played. In that regard, Kobe actually needed less minutes than Wilt

30,000 is still 30,000. Man you Kobe haters KILL me with that nonsence. Glass is always half-empty with you characters. He also didn’t play much those 1st 2 years, coming off the bench.

And who was Wilt’s competition? A whole bunch of 6”9 unathletic centers? Jordan’s light was the greenest of all times, Karl Malone had one of the best passers of all time, think he woulda reached that milestone without Stockton? You can talk crap about everyone on that list in a warped view of things like the way I just did (I don’t believe any of the garbage I just said in the sentance, btw.) but it is still one hell of an accomplishment.

He also didn’t play too much in his first couple of seasons.

Regardless, it doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s one of only five players, in NBA history, to score 30K. It’s an amazing accomplishment, even if you’re shooting 45%.

Sgati8: The NBA was formed in 1946. Those stats are what are recognized. So its just 66 years.

By the way, the ABA stats SHOULD be included in these lists. Dr.J also has over 30,000 points. He was Jordan and Kobe before they were.

I’m not a fan of his by any stretch, but you have to admire his talent and appreciate the fact that he’s done what only 4 others in the history of the game have done… and he’s not done yet. I know he’s been hurt off and on (what professional athlete hasn’t), so I’m wondering how many more years he can play at this level? If he can pass Wilt yet this year, that means he’ll pass Michael next year. Instead of hating on him, why don’t people just appreciate that they get to see one of the best to ever play the game? I grew up in Chicago, and covered the Bulls for a small, local, now defunct sports radio station. As arrogant as Michael is/was, it was still amazing watching him and getting to interview him after games and practices. Now that he’s gone, I miss watching him play. The same will be true about Kobe.

Kobe is the youngest to do it, but he already has WAY more games played than both Michael (107 more) and Wilt (134 more). It doesn’t help that the other 4 have all shot 50% or higher for their careers to Kobe’s 45%.
