Hmmmm.... LBJ has a better career scoring average than Kobe, will turn 28 in a few weeks, and will likely reach the 20'000 points plateau before the all-star game... he will thus have 6 full years to score those remaining 10k and own the record (until KD...if if if ...)

That's about 1700 points a season, which is what he scored during his rookie year, and last year in the lock-out shortened season. Even if he doesn't have to score as much as in Cleveland, I don't see him dropping under 20 ppg so fast... So IF he stays healthy and IF he continues to put the ball in the hole consistently over 2000 points a season, he should not only be able to break that record but to improve it by about one year.

LOL! What kind of crack do you smoke?

Jordan dominated the weakest era of basketball since the 60's. he cane into the league in what 84-85? He won absolutely NOTHING in the 80's & was humiliated out of the playoffs.

Lets quit the Jordan worship already fella. Jordan didn't win anything until Magic, Bird, & Zeke Thomas got old.

Do you fools think Jordan would dominate the NBA today like he did in the 90's? LOL! If you think that then I have some ocean front property in the Sahara desert to sell you.

Jordan is not the GOAT! Sick of this foolishness. Fools drunk off Gatorade & overdosed on Nike's!

It doesn't matter whether it's Kobe's forcing shots led to the Lakers' losing or the Lakers' losing led to Kobe's forcing shots. What matter is that when Kobe forces shots the Lakers lost.

Instead of exhausting yourself playing 1 on 5 on offense, share the offensive work load with your teammates and save some energy to play defense. Arron Affalo wouldn't score a season high 30 points if Kobe put some resistance in the perimeter. Toney Douglas wouldn't get an wide open 3 if Kobe got back on defense after his missed shot.

The only way to know is to look at other players.
How do the Heat do when Lebron scores 30 or more? Rockers when Harden scores 30+? Deron Williams? Chris Paul? Nowitzki? Rose?

I have a feeling that you will see a pattern develop. When a guy who shoots efficiently scores a ton of points, his team is more likely to win....It's not rocket science.

And yes, when Kobe ball-hogs, the Lakers do worse than normal. Kobe is a tremendous player but the Lakers are not a championship team when Kobe is running isos for himself all game long.

people read stats about kobe losing more games when he scores more and don't understand them, specifically when kobe scores more then they lose.

Kobe wants to win. He wants his team to play better so they can be good for the long run. In games where they are winning, Kobe doesnt want or NEED to score as much. In games where they are losing, you think he's not gonna fight to win? Most games where they lose it's because guys aren't picking up the slack, and kobe can always score no matter waht. In those games he likely scores more but it's a result of the game and not the other way around.

I know, one of the bad effects of Michael Jordan being the star of the league in the 90's is that now there's this "standard" of how to be an NBA player, it's like these players are stuck in this manufactured image of what they have to be, it's a reason why Tim Duncan is so underrated. Jordan Jockers can't let go of MJ like Republicans can't let go of Ronald Reagan.....

Best comment on this post. Couldn't agree more. You can't argue with results, and Kobe has those in excess. He has 30,000 points (including an 81 point game), an MVP trophy, he's played a leading role on 5 championship teams, winning the Finals MVP as THE leader twice, he's been a part of 2 more conference championship teams... truly one of the best players of all time. Who cares if he "isn't Jordan or not even in the same league"? Why can't you enjoy him for what he is, and realize we are watching one of the best players of all time?
