Smith is nowhere near those guys, even Gordon and Ellis.

JR Smith plays no defense whatsoever. He's extremely streaky, doesn't play within the flow of an offense, is completely unreliable, is a bad teammate, doesn't drive hard to the rim (he likes fancier layup or floater moves while avoiding contact)..the list goes on and on.

True, he does have a considerable amount of basketball skill. But you have to judge the whole package (or go by statistics, where JR Smith doesn't shine nearly as much as Gordon or even Monta). You can't go by potential or skills while alone on a basketball court.

Smith is a guy who comes off the bench, and once in 5 games will get hot and help you win. Don't get caught up just because he hit one shot!

Monta Ellis and Eric Gordon are far, far better players than JR Smith is. If you're talking about shooting guards, I'd take Demar Derozan, Ray Allen, Iguadala, OJ Mayo, Jason Terry, Kevin Martin, Paul George, and others before JR Smith.
If you like flash and bling, he's you're guy. If you want a winning basketball player, he's not.

I've argued that this guy is maybe too maligned for his antics and attitude (especially in Denver) and on the court is approaching a Top 5 2G in my book. I list my Top 5 below and remember Smith has never been featured like any of these guys (maybe for good reason). I would be interested to see others' thoughts on JR, he's really athletic, has B grade handle and has THE most important skill in hoops...scoring.

ktgotgame.com

1. Kobe
2. Harden
3. Wade
4. Joe Johnson
5. Manu

gordon, smith, ellis...after which there is considerable drop off.

This guy has drastically improved. I think it was on PBT (maybe not) where I read he gets to sleep earlier/parties less. This year is the best I've seen him so that has to have something to do with it. Bobcats nothing to be ashamed of. You finally made a great draft choice (MKG, regardless of his head scratcher pass), and you are on the upswing. Good to see the perennially shallow East improving. As for Knicks fans, you guys have to be overjoyed. What a shocker of a season they played so far, great team.
