The players’ collective FT percentage has been at 75% for more than half a century now. In collage it’s hovered at about sixty-nine percent for just as long.

Additionally, dominant big men are notoriously the worst from the stripe. Wilt Chamberlain once tried the Rick Barry granny shot.

….The vast majority of NBA players make their free throws. That’s why this “Hack-A-______” Strategy is only used on a few players, typically centers, not everybody.

It’s not like shooting free throws is a “lost-art” that players mastered in the 1970′s but current players in the NBA struggle with.
