Shaq had more offensive presence, but Howard is the better defender.

That said, the Lakers' defense was terrible last night. On nights where Dwight looks athletically dominant the Lakers D is anywhere from passable to good. He didn't seem to get in a defensive rhythm last night. Pau and Jamison were slow on the weakside rotation.

I just think about the fact that Howard with Rashard Lewis, Turkoglu, Jameer Nelson, and Courtney Lee were an EXCELLENT defensive team, and Lee is the only decent defender in that group. Kobe isn't what he was defensively and neither is World Peace, but they can both still get it done, especially MWP. Pau isn't great, but he's a damn sight better than Turk or Lewis. There's no reason this team shouldn't be able to be a good defensive team. And while Nash isn't a cure for everything that ails the offense, just his reliable shooting will help a lot with how much Dwight is getting stripped, and his shooting instead of Morris or Duhon (heck, or even Steve Blake instead of those guys) will help a lot.

Quite honestly, I'm a Laker fan and I'm nervous. I know there is the 2010 Heat start to conveniently fall back on but this team is not the Heat. Wade was still in his athletic prime and Lebron and Bosh were both 26. This Laker team is old and as someone pointed out, our youngest most athletic player who we WILL need to count on for at least 3-4 wins in a championship run shoots 46% from the line. Shaq was horrible too, but in all honesty Shaq had much more presence and impact on the court (at least empirically) than what I've seen from D12 so far.

The NBA isn't the NCAA tourney where a team can throw in a kludgy junk defense for 40 minutes and get a win. If a clearly inferior team beats the superior team it's solely the fault of the superior team.

Bahaha Kurt you write an article about a metta dunk when the lakers lose by 10 against the magic? Get real man. Why not show any of the nik vucevic dunks after him and jameer broke down Dwight and the laker defense like 3 times late in the 4th with the pick n roll.

You can get off Kobe's lap now Kurt
