I disagree with your last sentence. The Knicks cannot win a championship without a big 3. They need STAT and he can still perform after what he has done with Hakeem and when he is not injured. Melo has played at the 3 the last two games and still performed well, this can happen

But Gasol is a better rebounder and defender. For all the talk about Gasol being “soft,” He defended the best center in the game well enough to win a title in 2008, and Amare is the INSANELY athletic big man who’s never averaged double digit rebounds and only once over 2 blocks.

However Stoudemire IS an upgrade when it comes to tenacity and finishing. Gasol’s axe-to-the-knee screams while blowing LAYUPS, not dunks, certainly isn’t better.

Mind you, I support my hometown Knicks and like the Lakers.

People are running this angle into the ground. The Knicks’ ball movement (when Kidd returns) helps all that. The only reason it wasn’t leading to effective offensive possessions (but a 7-1 record under Woodson with both guys healthy???) was the ball was stopping in the halfcourt. When the Knicks are playing their game this season, that’s not happening. It doesn’t matter who’s on the court.

Lol, Pau Gasol is a cheaper player, a healthier player, and overall a better player than Amar’e.

Lakers’ issue is floor spacing right now on offense. Amar’e isn’t an upgrade from Pau Gasol when it comes to shooting jumpers.

Amar’e is an under-producing player who is a HUGE injury risk (as him currently missing games proves) who is massively overpaid.

Joe Johnson had good production (at least in the regular season) and wasn’t an injury risk, he was just overpaid.

Trading Amar’e is much more difficult than trading Joe Johnson, and trading Joe Johnson was very difficult.

Who wouldnt? Amare is in the best situation possible. Gets paid big bucks and can stay relatively fresh throughout the season with less minutes and less wear on his body. Success!

Amare has been the ultimate team player. I don’t understand the criticism he takes. Prior to Melo getting here, Amare was dominating and an MVP candidate. Unfortunately, in the trade for Melo (not saying it was a bad idea to get Melo) the Knicks gave up half their team & most importantly Raymond Felton. Amare didn’t have a true point guard to get him the ball & the team didn’t have time to gel due to injuries. I don’t even consider time under D’Antoni relevant because he hardly coached the team. Under Woodson, last season, Amare & Melo managed to go 10-2. Not bad. I don’t understand all the nonsense about them not being able to coexist on the court together. They’ll be just fine together & adding Shupert also should make them a serious contender. Arrogant Heat fans & Kurt, the hater, just like to make up negative stories about the Knicks.

How can I not watch Knicks bball? They’re on national TV any chance the networks get. And for the record (not like it matters to anyone), but I am a League Pass subscriber.

Its the 3rd season together for these two, and there’s still chemistry talk? Hmm… doesn’t quite pass the smell test. We’ll see if all of this supposed ‘game changing’ really makes a difference. I hope it does, but I’m not holding my breath.

And doesn’t like to lose? Sure, that’s why when he chose a great team like the Knicks in the summer of 2010 to sign with, right? And didn’t tale less money to play for a true contendor? Whatever get you through the night.

maybe its the coaching. unless you really believe that Mike “i rather quit than play two bigs at the same time even if one is Shaq” D’Antoni was the right coach for the job. Heck if he was in SA David Robinson would of been traded in Duncan’s rookie year.

It’s really just media generated nonsense. They also said that Rudy Gay and Randolph couldn’t play together in Memphis and they seem to be doing fine. And they ignore that the offense Melo is thriving in under Woodson (which incorporates motion, pick n roll, high-low, postups, and midrange isos) was designed around both players is vastly different than D’Antoni high pick n roll offense.

Knicks were 8-2 last year under Woodson with both Amare and Melo in the lineup. Amare may come off the bench as he knocks the rust off but he’ll be starting by the end of the year. I also don’t think Woodson giving this much thought since Amare’s still a couple of weeks a way at best from coming back.

WTF are you talking about!?!? Have you ever heard Amar’e make any noise about playing time since he has been on the Knicks? You obviously don’t watch Knicks basketball or follow the team except for what you read on here. He has don’t nothing but try to rally the team together. He has been upset publicly about one thing and one thing only, losing. He doesn’t like to lose. He has sacrificed his game to win on this team. Before you start spouting off about what you don’t know get an education.

All this speculation is done without the benefit of getting an answer from the players. We don’t know what they are going to be like because we have not seen them play together. They have retooled their games so when they step on the floor together it will reveal itself.

Not gonna happen. They will go deep into the luxury tax obtaining Amar’e. I like how everyone says that Amar’e can’t compliment Melo WITHOUT seeing them together THIS year. I am optimistic that Amar’e's time with Olajuwan will be a great benefit to his game.

When are coaches, front office people, fans, media members, etc, going to stop denying the real problem that’s staring these/these teams on the face? It’s not the talent you have or the way you use it or who starts or who comes off the bench that’s the problem.

It is the PEOPLE and their personalities. The reason the Spurs have been able to win 4 titles in the Duncan/Pop era is because their teams have little to no ego. They have players who will honestly and truly accept a bench role and truly be ok with it. Titles have been won with Ginobili both as a starter and sub. Check the Bird’s Celtics of the 80s. They won titles with McHale as a starter and sub. The Showtime Lakers did, as well. Did you ever hear about people complaining about minutes on those teams? Any chemistry issues? Nope. Seems to be all we hear about with Melo and Amare.

Honestly ask yourself, do anyone truly think Amare likes seeing this team succeed without him? Do you really think he is ok coming off the bench? Or will he do it for a few games and them complain the first time he sits during a close game?

I don’t get why this is such a issue. Who says they can’t co exist? Both players have retooled their games (to a degree) this off season. I believe that with Melo’s new team commitment and Amar’e working on devoloping a post games in the summer that they will be a formidable 1-2 punch. Personally I have never been enamored with the bulk of your scoring coming from 2 positions so close together, however this is the team that we have. I can’t wait until Amar’e comes back so I don’t have to listen to this conversation.

There’re gonna trade him to the lakers straight up for Pau…..their bad fits for both teams bc of the other players on the teams that are considered more important (Keeping Howard in L.A. & keeping Melo happy in N.Y.) & because of their coaches. In D’Antoni mind the Suns should have won the title a couple times….with Amare…it’s practically those suns teams with Howard & Kobe on it. Meanwhile, Woodson would love to have a true post player who can actually compliment Melo…not take away from what he can give to the team.

I’m still so surprised there has been almost no speculation on Amare being on the trading block.. if there not that much of a better team with him, his value will be more important elsewhere
