I still predict Lakers will right the ship – somewhat – and probably end up with a 4th-5th seed (having fallen too far behind teams like the Spurs, Thunder, and Memphis to earn a top-3 seed).

That could lead to a Lakers-Clippers matchup in the first round, which will be fun to watch.

I’ve said from the beginning, Dwight is only guaranteed to stay if they win the Finals this year. Dwight knows how old his teammates are, and how basically all of them fit the “past-their-prime” label. I think they have to at least make it to the Western Conference Finals for him to stay. A first or second round playoff exit equals Dwight leaving,

Possible options include Dallas (bigger market than most people realize), Philly (looks like they’ll have a Bynum-sized hole in their salary cap next year given his unsurprising knee issues), and Chicago (Bulls season this year could get ugly with their bench problems, which might force the Bulls to be aggressive in free agency).

Howard definitely is looking out for endorsements and self-promotion, but he’d also like to win.
If the Lakers don’t get it together this year….then what? Is Kobe at 35 going to be better than Kobe at 34? How about Nash at 39? Or Pau and Metta at age 34 instead of 33?

There is no “might be better next year” argument for a roster full of guys over 33 whose only starter under age 33 is Dwight himself.

Those other teams I mention are big media markets with good coaches and much more youth.

I’m not writing off the Lakers yet, but Dwight is NOT going to stick around with a losing team for the sake of positive media exposure. Otherwise, he’d still be in Orlando.

I don’t think so. Howard is about one thing, promoting Howard (albeit usually badly). He’s not leaving LA. As long as they offer him the max (and they will), he’s not going anywhere. He can’t get to NY, niether team will be able to afford him. The only option I can see is if Chicago can maybe clear the space to bring him in to be Rose’s sidekick. But I don’t see a better situation out there for Howard personally, and unfortunately, I think that is his main concern

Wow, I’d be upset with defense like that in the 2nd qtr with a 10 pt lead. With the game on the line? That’s just awful. Especially considering it was Artest, who is supposed to be their best stopper. It’s still early, and they just got the new coach and all, but I’ve seen nothing to this point that tells me this Lakers team can beat OKC or Memphis, let alone Miami in a playoff series

Thanks to the Dwight Howard School of Free Throw Shooting, the Lakers shot 50 %. Not from the field but from the line . The entire team ! Clank, Clang, clunk ! All Funk and Junk. I can hear the backboard noise like a bigass freight train derailing. Bring back Smush , at least he shot 72% FT. .
