Steve Blake out at least two more weeks with abdominal strain

The Lakers point guard situation will continue to be an unresolved struggle for a little while longer, as Steve Blake will miss at least two more weeks due to the abdominal strain that’s already sidelined him for the last eight games, according to a team release.

An MRI on Wednesday confirmed the need for Blake to miss the additional time.

Blake is not the answer to all of the problems the Lakers are facing at this point, with the team’s free throw shooting being right near the top of that list.

But the point guard tandem of Darius Morris and Chris Duhon has been less than stellar to say the least, especially defensively. L.A. has actually been most effective when Kobe Bryant has filled that role and initiated the Lakers offense.

The fact that Blake’s continued absence is such a concern, when Blake hasn’t exactly lit up the stat sheet at any time since coming to Los Angeles, is probably more worrisome than is the fact that he’ll be out another couple of weeks.

The big update the Lakers are waiting on is the availability of Steve Nash, who actually might be able to provide some immediate and significant help for a team that scored 77 points in its last outing, a loss to the Indiana Pacers. In the meantime, the additional weeks tacked on to Blake’s recovery will have to suffice.
