Jeremy Lin thinks he will still be an All-Star. Someday.

Based on his play so far this season, Jeremy Lin doesn’t deserve to be an All-Star. He’s been below replacement level. Frankly, he’s looked a young point guard learning how to play in the league and finding his game. He’ll improve, but that’s a process.

This year, if the fans don’t vote in Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant as the starters for the West, they are doing it wrong.

Lin likely has no problem with that, but he still has his trademark confidence and thinks he will be an All-Star someday, he told ESPNNewYork.com.

“At some point, for sure. Right now I have a ways to go, but at some point, yes. I try to get better every year, and if I do that and work on the things that are problems for me right now, I definitely think I’ll have that chance.”

Lin probably will be an All-Star someday, and probably sooner rather than later — because the fans vote. And Lin is still wildly popular. Look at it this way: How many years was Yao Ming voted a starter even though he could barely walk? Lin is popular stateside and worldwide and someday that could well translate to an All-Star appearance.

What’s more, in a couple years Lin’s game might be more deserving of the honor. He’s not there yet. Right now he’ll just try to go play like his old self against Raymond Felton and the Knicks on Friday.
