Dwight Howard airballs a free throw, laughs about it (VIDEO)

Nov 21, 2012, 11:21 AM EDT

The Lakers got a solid win over a pretty good Nets team on Tuesday, but struggled mightily from the free throw line in the process. L.A. as a team was 19-of-37 from the stripe, while Dwight Howard had more than half of the attempts, but managed to knock down just 7-of-19.

None were worse than this one, an airball that was short and wide left that occurred in the fourth quarter of a three-point ballgame.

Howard laughed at the result, and then, perhaps realizing the situation, put on a super-serious face prior to taking his next attempt.

That’s Howard’s personality, for better or for worse. But fans aren’t going to think it’s funny if his free throw shooting ends up costing the Lakers some games this season, and it’s tough to imagine Kobe Bryant being on board with one of his teammates laughing off misses in tight games, no matter the ultimate result.

We’ll see how much Laughing Boy laughs when his execrable free throw shooting costs the Lakers a key game in the playoffs and Coach Kobe rips his head off.

Laughing at your own miserable performance is not exactly the sign of a real professional.

Dwight the clown. You don’t laugh at that pathetic FT attempt unless its a member of your opponent.
Glad you’re gone! We know you’ll be gone from LA after this season too

He was probably laughing because he was embarrassed… Just like most people would do. The difference is that he is Dwight Howard and not some random guy playing against his buddies in his parents’ driveway… and he knows that people would line up to crucify him claiming that he doesn’t care. I generally don’t feel bad for pro athletes, but fans can be really petty about meaningless stuff sometimes. It’s quite obvious how much he cares. You don’t get to where he is in the game of basketball without caring.

Awesome that the LeBron hate has mostly moved on to Dwight. When Dwight gets his title and wins DPOY who will be next?

I could care less how badly he misses or how he reacts. It’s miss or make. 1 point or 0. The rest is meaningless.

Is it better when Kobe misses a free throw (like he did in crunch time yesterday as well) and doesn’t laugh. Do you get a half point for hitting the rim or for looking serious?

I remember seeing Blake Griffin air ball a free throw last year (pretty sure he aired several actually) and his reaction was to hang his head and look totally dejected, really upset/embarrassed with himself. That’s how you should react when you air ball a &$^%*# free throw! I’m biased however, as pretty much anything Dwight does these days rubs me the wrong way…

    Dwight: (Laughing)
Kobe: Man I’m embarrassed for you
    Dwight: Huh?
    Kobe: Embarrassed!
    Dwight: Nahh, don’t be
With his feelings hurt he licks his lips and puts on a serious face
