This is a blog. The bloggers job is to collect every story floating around out there, and give his/her opinion on it. You don’t have to agree with the opinion, but that’s the job description. ProBasketballTalk, not ProBasketballNews.

A newspaper is a different form of journalism that’s got a different role (other than opinion columns).

“We deal with rumors here at PBT all the time — trade rumors, injury rumors and so on — but the key is knowing and trusting your source….”

Ignoring all of the times you guys have gotten stories wrong, Phil Jackson *cough*… It is very weak to knock a publication for running a story, and people for talking, tweeting about said story, to ultimately run your own story about the fiasco, claiming how “ridiculous” the entire situation is.

Journalism 101, if you don’t trust the story, or the source, don’t run it. Mike Wise infamously caught hell for trying to teach people that in the new age of twitter, (he failed miserably, and his execution was awful), a few years back. But I digress, If you don’t believe the story, don’t run with it, but don’t be a coward and knock the original report, while saying things like,

“We’d all blow this off totally… except it’s Bynum’s knees, and nothing is impossible. If he missed the entire season, none of us would be shocked.”

Either run with it, or leave it alone. But trying to take the moral high ground in regards to journalism, while running a story that could be correct, just to cover your bases is very weak.
