As a knick i would d’atoni never got a shot. He was promised players to build around his system and once they started getting them they traded them all away for melo … A player he never wanted. I never liked the hire but he disnt get a punchers chance. To be fair … The suns had to deal with the lakers and spurs every year … Not many teams got out of the west during the past decade. He is one player manager though.

Ok, fair enough. How long did those coaches have before they were replaced by Phil. Teams with new parts take time to gel…..In the two previous instances (replacing Doug in Chicago and Del in L.A.) there were a lot of moving parts in those teams and Phil’s signing would come shortly after things have been settled. I’m not saying he isn’t a great coach, I’m just saying that let’s not act like he turned water into wine (Tim Tebow does that).

Actually, as it stands, the Bobcats ARE a playoff team if you want to be picky, but lets not crap on them to the point that Phil Jackson wouldnt make them at least more competitive than they were in seasons past.

No, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal would differ. Let’s see…that’s the greatest player, a top-50 player, a top-10 player and a top-10 center/ most dominant player of his era. I’m not part of the crowd that thinks Phil is only seen as a great coach because he won with great players, but let’s not sit up here and act like he could make the Bobcats a playoff team, ok?

You make very valid points. Let me be clear in saying that I am neither a Lakers fan nor a D’ Antoni supporter. With that said he has never had a defensive presence like Mr. Howard nor EVER had a player at the level Kobe is, even if he is 85 with two bad knees. The system is flawed but systems don’t win titles. Players do.

Just kidding I think this might play out to be a really good decision for them. I know everyone wanted Phil to come back, but this guy might prove to be a better long-term choice. Good luck Lakers fans. It’ll be fun to watch what changes he implements, especially early-on. Hope the players buy in. The league is always better off when the Lakers challenge for the title (just like they are when the Celtics, Bulls, Heat, etc. do).

Failure is a very strong word, especially when it comes to his time in Phoenix. He did lead them to two western conference titles and is arguably one hip-check away from the Finals and likely championship. (Not to mention ownerships’ handling of Joe Johnson, letting Amare walk after going 7 games with the Lakers, etc.) To use the word failure is extreme in my opinion. No, he didn’t achieve the ultimate goal, but considering where that team has been and where they are currently going, I would say his time in AZ was a sucess.
