I don't see this as some great big conspiracy. I think the Lakers thought they could succeed with MB. But I think as they kept losing games (including all the pre-season games), MB was starting to panic and started making bad decisions.

It started in the game against the Pistons where he put Kobe, Pau, and Dwight back in the game unnecessarily. That was a panicky move, which risked further injuries to the stars who are already not 100%! Then he’s talked about replacing Meeks with MWP at shooting guard? WTF? And in this last game against Utah, he played Kobe, Dwight, and Pau, each about 37 minutes. And he didn’t play Meeks at all!

I think Mitch and Jimmy could see that MB was getting nervous about his job status and making desperate moves. It was time to let him go.

And a good take it is, exposing the poor analysis of the article while offering a much more plausible explanation. Add in training camp and a dismally win-less preseason to graphically illustrate why now is as good a time as any to can Brown.

When the 2011/2012 season ended, everyone knew Howard was leaving Orlando. The Lakers were obviously a possible landing spot. It seems to me they may have kept Mike Brown for stability. Or the appearance thereof.

It’s one thing to fire your coach after Dwight Howard arrives and things aren’t clicking.

It’s quite a bit different to (1) Hire Mike Brown in 2011. (2) Fire him after one season. (3) Bring in another new head coach. (4) Then get Howard. (5) Then see if the new coach is a good fit.

In the first scenario, the Lakers tried and it didn’t work out (what bstroum said). The second scenario is a much bigger mess.

At this point, the Lakers want / really need Howard to sign a new deal. If firing Mike Brown gets them there, so be it.

My take is that mgt wanted to give Brown a chance with the new lineup to see what he could do before they ate his $18m contract. He proved what they were suspecting - he's a mediocre, unimaginative coach who really wasn't up to the task of managing superstar talent. The rotations this season have been horrific. For those people who say that he's only 5 games into the season, give the guy a chance...Brown's record extends back to last year and his uninspired coaching in the post-season. That combined with this season's string of losses is reason enough to boot him. Bring in the Mustache or the Guru!
