it’s not even close to the same. if the photographers at football games were sitting down RIGHT ON THE SIDELINE there would be a whole lot more injuries. there is no reason for them to be there in basketball. the players should be allowed to do what Rodman did in his day. remember?

Giants safety (believe it was Kenny Phillips) hurt his leg a few weeks back after falling into a cameraman on the sidelines.

So yes, it is a problem in football too.

I agree, I always thought that was stupid. Make the front row of seats for photographers. Make there company pay for those seats. Why are there so many of them anyway?

This happened to him last year to a lesser extent. He didn’t have as severe of an injury but was injured non the less.

You’ve never seen a cameraman, sound guy wiped out on the sideline? Dunno what to tell you dude, seems to happen a lot in games I watch. Maybe not every game like the NBA, but often enough to question why they’re there.

…..On the sidelines of a football game, you have mostly players (and a few coaches), who are standing, and therefore can easily get out of the way when a player runs out of bounds.
It’s a lot easier for a 28 year old athlete who is standing up to get out of the way than a 55 year old photographer who is sitting down to get out of the way.

The cameramen at a football game are generally a good 5-10 yards away from the sidelines, which is a great deal further away than the cameramen at NBA games.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

Who here hasn’t watched a game where one of your team’s best players tries to save a ball flying out of bounds and ends up falling into the crowd of photographers?

It’s a huge injury risk to the players and photographers, and frankly, they can get terrific action shots from further back.

Imagine if football players who get shoved out of bounds had to deal with photographers sitting on the ground in the sidelines who were slow to move out of their way. That would be madness, so I don’t get why it’s okay in the NBA.

Even better after watching it again. After the guy doesn’t move and make Richardson sprain his ankle, he then takes video of Richardson falling down and riving in pain on the floor

What was he taking pictures of, Richardson’s back? There was no reason that cameraman didn’t have plenty of time to move out of the way. It’s one thing to be there, it’s anotehr to act like you are an unmoveable object.

That being said, there is no reason for them to be there. With camera’s as good as they are now, they can get pictures just as good from 10-12 rows in the stands. Or from the tunnel the players come out of. This is just obstonence of the sake of obstonence.
