JR Smith is complaining about the price and in comparison I offered the Air Jordan perspective. You must obviously know Michael Jordan personally to vouch that he would not have charged $100 for sneakers in a recession because it would have been stupid and disrespectful, yet little did you know that these facts:

- Early 1990′s recession lasted from July of 1990 through March of 1991 (great economic state!!! really??)
- Air Jordan’s were priced at $125
- Michael Jordan is stupid and disrespectful (based on your opinion)

We are no longer in a recession; the United States that is. The recession ended in June of 2009, therefore your comment about the “economic state” in the U.S. is wrong once again.

If it were your business, you would follow suit and any retort followed with the “I would think about everyone else and their economic well-being blah blah blah…” would be hypocritical on your end. Business is business and everyone looks to capitalize on theirs. A perfect example is Jay-Z and what he has done with not only his name and brand recognition, but also with the Brooklyn Nets. Why do you think that Jay-Z had that concert in Brooklyn recently, which I attended and it was mediocre at best compared to his other performances, for the good of the people??? The concert was used to capitalize on the new Barclay’s Center and the Brooklyn Nets through him and for his personal financial gain — business.

As to my technology and quality comments, it seems that you read too much into that, since nowhere in my original post do I state that it prevents injuries from happening. Simply pick up a shoe made today and compare it to a shoe made 20 years, especially sneakers, and note the difference in quality that has been brought because of technology.

And for as much responsibility you feel that LeBron should have about pricing and walking in there and all that jazz, the same could have been said about Jordan back in the 90s and can be said about the ridiculous ticket prices charged by NBA teams and their owners (i.e. see Jay-Z).

I have a vast collection of shoes and i will not pay 270 for this. Overpaid? You could argue every athlete is overpaid. He’s not even on a max deal and even if he was on a max deal his value to his team and franchise would far outweigh the cost. Kobe Bryant is on a max deal and making something like 28 million this year but Jerry Buss even said if he could, he’d pay him 70 or more, thats how much these guys are valued to their franchises.

Obviously this does not take into consideration improvements in technology and quality when comparing a shoe made in 2012 to that of one made in 1990.
