Second, he acts like this is out of the ordinary. When the Heat flies in to LA on a holiday, the CRAWL from LAX to Staples takes forever. His main beef is that NY (which is usually a mini-vacation for most players) is basically shut down. He wants it rescheduled to a date when he can go shopping.

Lastly, he donated a check – big deal. That check was going to be taxed at the Federal rate, the NY State rate, and the NY City rate – making it one of his smaller per-game checks. If he gave away ten checks he’d still have a tax bill at the end of the year. Think about it – if Wade is paid $210K per game, times 82 games, plus playoff bonus, plus endorsements – exactly what did his donation really cost him “out of pocket”? The answer is nothing. He just rearranged his tax bill and got a chance to say “look at me, I’m magnanimous”. If he was really altruistic, he would have given the money and not made a press release – like the average Joe has done.

No, this was just an excuse for Heat haters to hate on Dwyane Wade. It’s not even one of their best attempts. And this isn’t the first time the Heat have helped with a natural disaster. When Katrina hit, they played a charity game with the Spurs to raise money. When the Haiti disaster occurred, the Heat organization donated an incredible amount of money. In fact, both players and management personally went down to help with the disaster.

I took a seminar about effective communications once and have tried to install this in my kids’ brains (to no avail I should point out). EFFECTIVE communication is said to be made up of three parts: 40% are the words you use, 30% is the tone or inflection in your voice, and 30% is your body language. In other words, texting or emailing (or posting on blog sites I guess) by default eliminates 60% of what’s deemed “effective” communications. And people wonder why they’re “misunderstood” when they use Twitter.

He was trying to cover his butt when he complained about traffic. If he really does donate, good for him. But his stupid tweet was what started the whole thing.
