Pacers’ Gerald Green can get entire head above rim. Wow.

Gerald Green has mad hops.

Don’t believe me, check out that photo.

That has always been the case — coming out of high school and into the NBA his ability to get up has never been questioned. His all-around game, yes. But not his hops. It was that athleticism that got him taken in the first round straight out of high school (No. 18 by the Celtics in 2006). It’s those hops that won him the 2007 Dunk Contest.

Last year Green seemed to have put it all together and found a spot to make that athleticism work for him, averaging 12.9 points a game on 48.1 percent shooting for the lowly Nets. The Pacers grabbed him this year and he has looked good in preseason action.

That photo to the right is from the twitter account of Pacers big man David West. All we can say is… damn. And if you want to see what those hops can do for you in a game, well, here you go:

Hat tip to The Point Forward.

hoops yes but the inability to stretch the D. and play D. kills his chances of sticking with teams. if he was to fix these things he would rock

He has acquired those skills, that’s why the pacers signed him.

Gerald has shot almost 37% from the 3 for his career and 80% from the foul line. Was really sad to see him go. Thought Nets could start Deron, Joe J, Gerald Green, Gerald Wallace, Reggie Evans…with Brook playing starters minutes off bench…

Gerald Green came out of high school, not college.

In all fairness, Kurt corrects himself later on in the article!

I honestly don’t get how he did that. You’d think he’d write that he came out of High School and go “wait a minute. I should correct that earlier part,” but not Kurt.

Was it hung over a dutch door? ;-)

Big deal. I did that on a regular hoop…. lowered to 7 ft.

With athleticism like this, even with your eyes closed you should be an elite perimeter defender a’la Tony Allen, Sefolosha, etc….

Just boggles my mind that this dude has been in and out of the league with physical gifts like this, but I think he’s starting to figure it all out as we can tell by his recent play dating back to the D League all star game last season where he tore it up and announced his return to the L, he been solid ever since then….

He approaching his late 20’s and has a few years of hops left, hopefully the next few years he sticks around so we can enjoy highlights like this on a weekly basis from him
