Report: Dwight Howard to make Lakers debut Sunday

He’s been reported to look strong in practice, and now Lakers fans are going to get their wish.

Dwight Howard will make his debut as a Laker Sunday in a preseason game against the Kings at Staples Center, according to Marc Spears and Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

“He is making progress,” one Lakers source told Yahoo! Sports. “There is a good chance he can play Sunday.”

The Lakers have brought Howard along slowly following off-season back surgery. He had been on schedule to play in some preseason games — he’d been cleared for full-contact practices — but the Lakers had wanted to move cautiously because they are not playing for the Oct. 30 season opener and they didn’t want to rush him back.

However, some time on the court for Howard to get used to running the pick-and-roll with Steve Nash, to get used to a high-low post game with Pau Gasol, to learn to play with Kobe Bryant. That group needs to develop some chemistry and some preseason minutes speeds that process along.

Not that Lakers fans should expect a monster night out of Howard, but just having him on the court is a big first step.

Lakers fan rejoice! The game is scheduled to be on NBA tv so we won’t all be screwed by time Warner for this one. Watch them while you can.

Only if you’re outside the southern California market. If you are, blackout rules apply.

I can’t wait to see the new Laker team playing whole on Sunday. Going to enjoy this season since it’s likely the Lakers will get what is rightfully theirs, the NBA Championship. After two disappointing seasons this one will be special with our new special teammates. Go Howard!!! Go Kobe!!! Go Lakers!!!

I couldn’t care less about the Lakers but I’m actually excited to see team Viagra take the floor. I wouldn’t want to beat this team at anything less than FULL strength. I can see it now, yeah they won cause D12 had a hurty burny feeling in his back. Or. They won cause Gasofts gash hurts or cause Kobe’s got a sore knee………

Nope. I want this team thrashed to bits when they’re at full strength and nothing less. I’m keeping track of all you faithfuls and certain I will not see any of you when that happens. Or worse, it’s the we got 16 how many u got argument. Mark this post.

No championship for this group. Too many new pieces. Kobe is old and will get older during the season. Sorry Laker fans. It ain’t happening.
