I have to question whether or not you know the definition of "overrated". Bowie's selection in the draft is always (and unfairly) viewed in 20/20 hindsight. No one was predicting that Jordan would be one of the all-time greats when he came out of Carolina.

In Bowie, the Blazers were drafting a seven-footer to fill a need in the post. They had won a title with Walton in '77, but he was later dealt due to injury issues.

Unfortunately, Bowie's career was derailed by injuries as well. However, during his rookie year he averaged 10 points and 8 boards per game.....good enough to put him on the NBA All-Rookie squad that year. After being shipped to the Nets in the Buck Williams deal, Bowie averaged 12 points and 8 boards for them. For his career he averaged 11 points and 7 rebounds.

He may have been injury-prone, and probably didn't play to the level of a third overall draft pick. But he wasn't horrendous. Nor was he ever "overrated". We can't blame him for not being Michael Jordan. Who was?

I wouldn't say he is the most overrated player ever..... I can think of at least one player that was more overrated ....that guy picked in the first round over Michael Jordan... what was his name ...oh yeah .. Sam Bowie! Seriously though. Lin made the most of his given opportunity while starting for the NY Knicks. Having a championship caliber center like Chandler and 3 point shooter like Novak made his limited talent and skill set appear better than it really is. Houston obviously has to live with their decision to pay this guy like he was a proven point guard for the few years he sat the bench and was waived by several teams to and from the D-league. So yeah!!! Its going to be a slow process.

I have been saying it from the begining, McHale better find D'Antoni's number and offer to pay his way to Houston and give him a job as consultant or the next couple of years are going to feel like decades for the Rockets. They are already starting to formulate a bunch of excuses as to why their prematurely anointed wonder-boy is not living up to all that hype, now it is going to take "time" when in the beginning wonder-boy was going to change the nba with all his skills and talent and DOMINATE!!! Well back to the drawing board.

Well, I don't know if he's the most overrated player ever. He is however, going to be paid like a superstar in the next few seasons. That's a lot for a kid with a ridiculously high turnover rate and absolutely no idea how to play defense.
