He retired because of injuries before the shot clock was instituted, you buffoon. He came back the next year and played 37 games, but very much resembled a guy who had already retired because he could barely walk.

Here’s an excerpt from a Mikan bio on NBA.com:

Mikan did seem to single-handedly overpower the rest of the league at times, so much so that the NBA tried to make it more difficult for him to score by expanding the width of the key, from 6 feet to 12 feet. The 24-second clock also came about because of Mikan. In a game in 1950 the Fort Wayne Pistons decided that the only way they could win was to hold onto the ball and not let the Lakers have it. They ended up winning, 19-18, in the lowest-scoring game in NBA history. The league implemented the 24-second shot clock a few seasons later.

Notice the sentence “The 24-second shot clock also came about because of Mikan”. This would seemingly contradict your statement “The rule had nothing to do with Mikan in any way”.

Glad we cleared this up. Don’t blather on about things you are clueless about. Feel free to blog about this.

The rule had nothing to do with Mikan in any way (check your history), and he was ATROCIOUS after it was put into place. I’m not sure how you can completely disregard these very basic facts so blatantly.

When I was in high school I saw my school play against Mark Aguirre, Terry Cummings and Isiah Thomas all in a two year span.
Some great players back then.

@chicitybulls NYC is known as the Mecca… Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Chris Mullin, etc. NYC has history but, I totally agree that Chi-town is producing the best talent in the league now. NYC step ya game up!

Yes, I would. Part of the reason the shot clock was instituted was to prevent teams from holding onto the ball for several minutes at a time in order to limit Mikan’s touches. Odd that you would cite a rule implemented as a result of Mikan’s dominance.

I’ve been saying this for years. Chicago has the most talent in the league bar none. Not sure why people are so high on NY. They have some good players but not like Chicago.
