Video: Harrison Barnes dunks on Al Jefferson

Oct 9, 2012, 2:44 PM EDT

This is not an all-time classic or anything, but for a rookie making a play on a long-time veteran  it’s pretty good. This is Warriors rookie Harrison Barnes throwing it down on Al Jefferson (who was late on the rotation but in part because Paul Millsap did nothing to slow Barnes coming off the pick, that reach was sad) from Monday night.

If you’re looking for a live dark horse in the Rookie of the Year race, Barnes is a good call. His game translates well to the NBA, he’s going to get a lot of opportunities and touches with Golden State, and it’s a team that could have some success this season. Expect a couple monster nights from him.

I live in the Bay Area. Great kid by all accounts

However, he still has a lot of work to do on his game.

He has trouble with his ball skills especially when penetrating after two or three dribbles. Also, he has a lot of trouble with his shot when he doesn’t have his shoulders squared perfectly to the basket.

I understand he’s working on these issues but as a Warriors fan I will admit there are a lot of other players I’d put ahead of him for ROY; Michael Kidd G – who was an absolute stud in the few Summer league games he played and showed a lot of Scottie Pippen in his well rounded game) A. Davis, etc for starters.

That’s why he said live dark horse. Of course there’s like 3-5 candidates (mine and many being Damian lillard). And of course he has a long way to go. He still hasnt played a regular season game. I love his size and he has a quiet confidence about him. Warriors went from a lack of sf to a plethora. So I don’t think he’ll get enough minutes but he should improve a lot his rookie season

KH with a spot-on assessment. My money is on Barnes for RoY.
