Lakers backup big man Hill out with herniated disc in back

With Dwight Howard out until whenever (likely around the start of the season), the Lakers have been counting on Jordan Hill to soak up a lot of his minutes, both in practice and in games.

But now Hill is out with a herniated disc in his back, reports the Lakers (hat tip to Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register). Hill was seen putting heat on his back on the bench at the end of the Lakers Sunday night game against Golden State in Fresno.

Hill will be re-evaluated in a week. As it is the preseason it would mean the Lakers will go slow with bringing Hill back.

If this were to happen in the regular season, Pau Gasol would be playing the five a lot. What it might mean is the rookie Robert Sacre — the Gonzaga big man out of Canada who was the 60th and last pick in the draft — stands a better chance of making the opening day roster. Depends on how everyone else heals up front, because the Lakers depth is nonexistent right now.

And so the house of cards begins to fall…

Man, poor pathetic Celtic troll is so sad.

    • cosanostra71 - Oct 8, 2012 at 11:37 PM

yeah the second big man off the bench is a real loss. LAKERS might not have a winning record in the preseason!

    Robert Sacre time!

Uh oh, better bring in Earl Clark!

You guys just don’t get it. Your starting center has back issues, your primary back up center now has back issues.

You’re “1st big off the bench” Jamison is going to be 37. You’re point man is going to be 40. No, I don’t see any issues there whatsoever…..
The wheels WILL come off, its just a matter of when.

uh, i can’t speak for anyone else, but i don’t focus on age. i put more emphasis on statistics and if that guy is able to produce. i feel like if it were up to most ill informed fans to run the NBA, there’d be no one over 30 in the game. guys get caught up in age soo much. even experts. it’s the reason why barkley a few years ago was saying kobe can not dominate the game anymore. and kobe proceeds to have three or four more seasons where he is still looked at as one of the gods in the game. barkley eats crow. jamison is still a capable scorer around the rim, better than most of these young 25 years old in the league fighting for minutes. jamison was a starter last season and produced well. he is a bench player die to the talent ahead of him. age is nothing but a number. i put more stock in heart, hard word, and numbers. i’m not an age-ist. sorry. more like a business man. if the product (the player) is performing well, that’s all that matters to me. not how long it’s been in stock (age). unless there’s an expiration date of course (retirement).

The LAKERS are just fine. Dwight’s moving like he did before surgery and this Hill injury is relatively minor. The key is for the LAKERS to be healthy in May and June.

    • cbt22 - Oct 9, 2012 at 6:01 PM

This won’t effect the lakers that much, but I am not sure if you have ever had a Herniated disk in your back but its something that rest doesn’t really help with and usually requires surgery. Hill really ins’t that big of a factor anyway but with out surgery on that back it will slow him down for a long time. Hill is overrated anyway though and K Love, the Pekecutioner, and The Unicorn (once Healthy) are going to destroy the lakers anyway.

What a moronic thing for you to say(suprise, suprise).
1st off, you aren’t a doctor. How would you know if Hills injury is minor or not?
Secondly, Howard moving well is not the point, the point is running up and down the court 35 minutes a night getting banged on by big bodied men(don’t get excited on us now, you savage).
Who cares if he’s moving normal walking around?
Keep on ignoring the potential pitfalls of this team, you’ll be crying when it does happen though.

  7. lakerluver - Oct 9, 2012 at 11:49 AM

Wishful thinking. The naysayers fear what the LAKERS will be if they stay healthy. Dwight’s way ahead of schedule. No, I’m not a doctor but neither are you!!

  8. lakerluver - Oct 9, 2012 at 11:51 AM

Steve Nash has played with “a bad back” for years. Hasn’t held him back very much. GO LAKERS!!

  9. lakerluver - Oct 9, 2012 at 11:57 AM

If a LAKER catches a cold or stubbs a toe the naysayers will pounce all over it.

  10. lakerluver - Oct 9, 2012 at 12:17 PM

*stubs* How and when did a “sports” talk site become a place for ignorant, immature homophobic remarks?

  11. paulhargis53 - Oct 9, 2012 at 1:20 PM

I don’t “fear” the Lakers healthy. Their bench isn’t strong enough. It’s going to be the same sad story for you 3 years running. I ve researched back injuries enough to know to not ever think you are as good as new. The pounding he will take and the constant running is not going to be good for it. Who cares if he’s ahead of schedule? He’s not seeing game action at this point. A herniated disc isn’t something you just brush off either. Nash’s back issues are why he can’t play anymore than the 25-28 minutes he averages a night.
This team will not keep up with the Thunder, they’ll get run into the ground.

Yo have no one to blame except yourself for the ignorance on this site. I’ll admit I’m a bit immature, but I’m not homophobic.

Your lifestyle is your lifestyle. I don’t get that you’re attracted to large sweaty black men, but that’s your choice, and I support you 100%. Truth be told, you’ve thrown a couple of those out there yourself, so, your martyr act here rings hollow.

You know, if you could just bring yourself to stop responding to me, your issues would disappear. You’re just too weakminded to do it. You think that you,are in the right and im wrong, and that’s you’re problem. You look at the thumbs and think you’re “winning”. Don’t you think that how I portray myself on here that I know I’m going to get thumbed down? Thing is, I don’t care. Why do you? They mean nothing.
You are just so over the top and its sad. I’m over the top, but I’m doing it on purpose. You really believe everything you type. I’m not sure why you’d respond after this, but I’m positive you will, you can’t help yourself.

  12. lakerluver - Oct 9, 2012 at 4:15 PM

Dude, I stopped reading that crap after the first sentence. I’ll debate sports, and my beloved LAKERS, with anyone. However, clowns like you should be banned. Your whole lame “act” is to make disparaging remarks about a. Me, b. the LAKERS, c. all LAKERS fans. Your attempt at wit is as old and tired as you are. Nobody finds you funny anymore, don’t you see that?

    • loungefly74 - Oct 9, 2012 at 11:37 PM

long forgotten about those fools…LL, they are idiots. they are not worth it. they bring nothing to the table…

  13. paulhargis53 - Oct 9, 2012 at 5:23 PM

No, you know you read the whole thing….and still responded. I told you…

According to your beloved thumbs, some people like my posts and think I’m funny.

You see, I’d debate you on sports, but you know nothing. You don’t want to debate anyway, if people don’t agree with you, then they are idiots.
You seem to forget that about yourself.
Now, you can’t handle the repercussions so youre asking to get me banned. You’re pathetic. I do talk about sports too, I just insult you in the process, you invite criticism.
