Quote of the day: KG lost Ray Allen’s phone number

Sep 28, 2012, 5:26 PM EDT

“I don’t have Ray’s number anymore. I’m not trying to communicate with him.”

Kevin Garnett, talking to CSNNE.com at media day about former Celtic and now Heat sharpshooter Ray Allen

Allen took less money to become part of the Miami Heat machine this season after being part of the championship “big three” era in Boston, something that happened for a variety of reasons (the rise of Avery Bradley, the rise of Rajon Rondo…).

KG is an old-school competitor. Not friends on or off the court with the enemy. So, sorry Ray. You are dead to him.

Im a hardcore suns fan but i love KGs attitude when it comes to guys not on his team.

  2. kingbeason52 - Sep 28, 2012 at 6:16 PM

No suprise here..although he has game..he has never had a credible personailty..

  3. raidmagic - Sep 28, 2012 at 6:34 PM

KG is a dying breed. NBA players are all buddies now, that’s why there are no more hardcore rivalries anymore. Sure the fans are still hate filled and that creates a rivalry but it isn’t there for the players anymore

Thank you KG!!! Until he goes public on why he left the C’s, as far as i’m concerned he was selfish. Dude, you got your first ring with KG, Paul & Rondo that should count for something. Getting another one with the enemy is hella wack. Your new teammates were talking mad shit about you just a few months ago and now you’re breaking bread with them. To each his own, but where is the honor in that? So what if the C’s never win another with this group, it’s about going to war with your brothers, you can’t win every battle. Ray’s the best shooter in the game, but I agree with Kevin, Ray who?

KG’s angry only cause he knows they have no chance against the Heat.

    • pop562 - Oct 2, 2012 at 12:18 PM

the celtics took the heat to game 7? with avery bradley out of the game, injured ray allen and paul pierce was hurt but still played…talking about no chance…if anything the heats definitely have to worry about the celtics and i’m definitely no celtics fan. When its all said and done, a healthy celtics and heats team would still go to a game 7 and thats the kinda of basketball game i want to watch.

Can’t really fault KG for feeling this way considering the Heat and Celtics is the biggest rivalry going in the Eastern Conference and both years that Lebron has been in Miami they sent Boston packing early for the season. But can’t fault Ray for wanting to go to the better team either. 2 years in a row Miami has beaten Boston when it counted most, relatively easily when the big 3 were healthy. Ray had a first hand seat to these defeats so something tells me that Ray knows Boston’s window is a lot closer to shutting then Miami’s is. And at the end of the day, when it’s all said and done Ray will most likely be able to look at more rings on his fingers then KG will see on his!

I love it. KG is how a player should be

  8. eugenesaxe - Sep 29, 2012 at 1:23 AM

I’m sure Ray’s heart is all broken.

    • 1972wasalongtimeago - Sep 29, 2012 at 10:52 AM

Ray said to KG- “One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces”

  9. magicbucs - Sep 29, 2012 at 2:21 AM

Ray’s a sell out, coat tail riding, mamas boy! I’m neither a Celtic or heat fan but if any man had any character you don’t ditch your team for the rival just to try to smooth ride to an easier ring. I’m glad KG said that. He’s real and honest. Not like now, James and Durant working out together in off season? Wtf?!?!

    • narlo00 - Sep 29, 2012 at 3:20 AM

Sooo ray was just suppose to suck it up even though Boston tried to trade him at least twice?

    • 1972wasalongtimeago - Sep 29, 2012 at 10:51 AM

What are your thoughts about Steve Nash? Bet you have no problem, right?

  10. JMil_ATL - Sep 29, 2012 at 6:39 AM

I wouldn’t walk outside my house to talk to KG. Nothing to miss there for Ray Allen.

    • sellahh - Sep 29, 2012 at 9:27 AM

You’d not walk. You’d sprint outta ur house to even see KG in person, let alone exchange a word with him.

  11. 1972wasalongtimeago - Sep 29, 2012 at 9:11 AM

Talk talk talk talk talk talk blah blah blah blah blah quack quack quack quack

  12. money2long - Sep 29, 2012 at 9:14 AM

ok..so kg doesn’t have the number of any other nba player? only those on his team? i find that hard to believe. this sounds like a case of kg simply being mad allen left, in particular to their east coast most challenging foe.

  13. jayzus - Sep 29, 2012 at 10:34 AM

KG is an old school douche nozzle. Ray is a bit smaller than KG so am sure he will come at him hard when he gets a chance.

  14. giselleisasucubus - Sep 29, 2012 at 11:18 AM

Why wouldn’t KG be offended? KG basically just had a core member of his team tell him that his chances are better w/their conference rival, and even though they built a great thing in Boston, he was going to Miami. I see why KG is mad, and anyone who thinks he is in the wrong has clearly never been part of a tight knit team. The more I think about what Ray did, the more it bothers me too. He should have stayed in Boston.

    Non story

  16. redbullenergydrink - Sep 29, 2012 at 8:08 PM

Can’t wait for the season to start!

  17. Louis Tumblin - Oct 4, 2012 at 2:10 PM

You may not like KG but just wants to win. He is old school for sure.
