If Terrence Ross and Valanciunas pan out, they will have a better chance next year.

The Raptors are in a bad spot. They have a lot of good pieces that contenders would covet, but no real stars that can take them to the next level (you need at least 2 of them to contend in today’s NBA). The problem is, the Raptors would never be able to attract a star player. So their only chance is to get lucky through the draft.
Except this team is built to just miss out on the playoffs, meaning their draft picks will be in the mid-teens.

At least the team won’t be downright awful, and they will compete hard every night under Casey. But 40 wins is pretty much the ceiling for this squad.
