Rondo is a terrific player with unique skills, capable of huge games.

But . . . but ….. but ……

If you think he’s a leader in the traditional sense, think again. His problem is that he pouts when things don’t go his way, and even a joking slight (Obama talking about his outside shooting) sends him into funks. He took it personally when his BFF Kendrick Perkins was traded.

He may get over all that someday, but there’s no guarantee.

Rivers is probably just trying to pump him up for maximum production, kind of like when Rex Ryan made Plaxico Burress one of the Jets captains.

Again, no slight on Rondo’s talent. Any Celtics fan will tell you it’s great to watch him when things are going well. He just needs to mature a bit, and it’s kind of surprising that hasn’t happened yet on such a veteran team.
