Duncan doesn’t need a no-trade clause. I can see Garnett being traded, but Duncan has a home for life.

The Spurs trading Duncan would be like the Lakers trading Magic or the Bulls trading Jordan would be inconceivable. Those are players drafted by the franchise who spend over a decade leading them to multiple championships.

The Celtics trading Garnett would be very unlikely but not impossible. Garnett was an acquisition like Ray Allen, and Ray Allen was on the trading block twice (and he was even told that he had been traded to Memphis for OJ Mayo before the Grizzlies backed out). Heck, I’ve heard occasional rumors of trades involving Paul Pierce, and he was drafted by the Celtics.

Regardless, both guys earned no-trade clauses in their contracts. They’ve both made plenty of money – they’re only playing to help their current franchises win.

What I want to know is, would the Spurs or Celtics ever get to the point where they’d trade Duncan or Garnett? As the Spurs go, I’d have to think they wouldn’t. This is the man that brought them 4 NBA Championships. It’s always interesting to mull over, however.
