But, isn’t half a season at a value of 1.6 less than a full season at 1.35?

I also understand horizon’s point about not likely getting more once you play for the minimum. But, is anyone ever going to pay a player his age more than the minimum, unless they are still playing extremely well?

Well I know one way holding out until the mid-season would get him more money. The Celtics have the Bi-annual Exception(BAE). Which would be 1.6 million instead of the veterans minimum. So the Celtics would have more money than most contenders at that point of mid-season and if they are still interested he would most likely sign with them

Kenyon, at some point has to be realistic about his career and options. Martin, 34yrs old, play has regressed and was always looked at as overpaid. He never played up to the level of PF’s during his career such as Duncan, Garnett, Dirk, Webber or Wallace.

Kenyon needs to understand his worth at this point in his career. Swallow your pride and sign with a contender for the vet’s-minimum.

Once you accept a 1-year deal at the veteran’s minimum, it gets harder to ask for more money after you’re a year older and a free agent again, especially since some of these teams might greatly limit his minutes.

Clearly, he thinks he’s worth more money, and if he feels comfortable enough with his financial situation to wait it out, that’s his call.

Totally agree. There comes a point when you swallow your pride and admit to yourself at your age, the vet minimum is what your market value is. A developing team is not going to commit a mid-level exception to an aging role player, while a contender does not have the cap space to pay it. A 34-year old power forward who is not a franchise-level player who wants to get paid and wants to be on a contender is asking a bit too much here. Take the veteran’s minimum and join the Knicks. It makes the most sense.

How would holding out until midseason get him any more money? Even if he signs for a little higher value, he will have missed half the season, so it will be pro-rated. I understand we all want more money, but it sounds more like a pride thing than a money thing at this point. Veterman minimum is more than nothing.

Go ask Latrell Sprewell how much sense it makes to turn down money because it is an insult? Granted Latrell turned down even more money ($28 million) because he had to “feed his family”, and would later go bankrupt, but the premise is still the same. Any money is more than no money. Last year’s minimum for a player with over 10 years service was over $1.35 million. Nothing to scoff at.
