Actually, your information is quite incorrect. One of the “few” concessions that Clay made when the City folded it’s case and let him run off with our team, was providing the name “SuperSonics” to be available if the city was able to acquire an arena deal and a “new” team. As for the rest of your comments…. you are dead on!

As a former sonics fan, i absolutly want the name sonics back and so do most other fans in seattle, however, if they had to change their name i would go for Emerald City Experience.

Actually we didn’t concede the history and the Sonics name is there for the taking. Also the Sonics can reclaim their history from the Thunder, although it would be shared, as silly as it sounds.

That said, as much as I hated having my team taken away from me, the NBA set the rules. We tried to play rough with the NBA and got burned and now the team we built was in OKC playing for the title. I am sorry to see a team get taken away, but if your team is struggling, Stern will allow us to take it.

And unless you are the Mavericks or the Trailblazers you have nobody to blame but your current owner, because Cuban and Allen are the only owners to vote against the Sonics move.

Have you seen Sonicsgate? Silly name but a good documentary of how the Supersonics were bought and relocated. It’s quite the conspiracy. The former owner was aware of the new owner’s intentions to move the team, the new owners lied and lied and lied despite being from Oklahoma City (a market that had recently proven itself to be very basketball friendly), and worst of all the Mayor/Seattle government didn’t put up a fight. They even conceded the team history meaning that everything ‘Supersonics’ is now a part of the Oklahoma City franchise.

I’m no lawyer but it seems to me that the OKC Thunder wouldn’t allow Seattle to name their franchise ‘Supersonics’.

Seattle deserves an NBA team. Love to see the ‘Supersonics’ in action again soon.

Sadly, it may be Sacramento fans who lose out due to the incompetence of the Maloof’s.
