I liked Joel Anthony at first for his energy and shot blocking off the bench but over time I saw how he can't match up against tall or big centers, can't rebound and isn't even that great a shot blocker. And his ball handling is so atrocious that he isn't worth the liability that he is on the boards and offense.

Chris Andersen is a rich man's version of Joel Anthony with some ball handling skills and much more production on the boards & defense. I'm not sure how his personal issues will shake out but I hope the Heat pick him up.

Offensively, yes. But he's better than his numbers suggest. He got phased out as the playoffs went on for Miami this past year, but he was a diiference maker in at least one game of that Pacers series. That's more than can be said for a lot of role players. In certain matchups, particularly in today's shrinking NBA, he can be effective. His hustle and ability to rotate defensively are tremendous.

Joel Anthony is undersized, a poor rebounder, and limited on offense. Whenever the opposing center leaves him to try to stop a drive to the basket by Wade or LeBron, he can (usually) catch a pass and finish with a dunk or layup, but that's about it.

In addition to shot-blocking, though, he's also a great screen-setter, a solid low-post defender, and is a great fit for the Heat's defensive system of showing on pick-and-rolls due to his good foot-speed.

But the author is absolutely right that I can't see any other teams looking to take on Anthony and the 3 years left on his deal, at $3.8 million a year, **unless** another asset is included in the deal.
Past deals I've seen involving Joel Anthony also include Norris Cole or the 2013 lottery-protected draft pick of the 76'ers that Pat Riley acquired while trading down in the 2012 draft.
