So, the Heat currently have 13 players under contract.

Looking at their roster, they're pretty deep from positions 1 to 4 (counting LeBron and Wade as potential point guards).

With Rashard Lewis, they have a stretch-4 with a solid jump shot.
Chris Bosh, however, is the *only* guy on the roster who can play the role of "stretch-5." Bosh playing center PLUS being a credible 3-point shooter was an important part of the Heat's floor spacing in the Finals. LeBron + Battier + Bosh all being credible 3-point shooters meant that opposing forwards and centers had to close out on them beyond the 3-point arc, allowing penetration by Wade, LeBron, and even Mario Chalmers!

Unlike Bosh, Rashard Lewis lacks the bulk or rebounding ability to play the center position - even as a "small-ball" center. Josh Harrelson could serve as a backup "stretch-5" since he is a solid rebounder, has great size, and is a credible 3-point shooter.

I think Harrelson + 1 more traditional center/power forward would round out the Heat roster nicely.

I agree that somebody like Blatche, young, big, and with upside would be intriguing. In fact, I'd rather the Heat take a shot on him than Harrellson. Miami loves them a good reclamation project. But out of those ten players you named, only one- Haslem- can spell Bosh at the five, and while I hope his jumper returns to form, you never now. My point is just that this is a way Miami could go if it comes down to looking at guys who are completely one dimensional defensive stoppers, ala Joel Anthony, or world-record foul givers, ala Dexter Pittman.

In any case, whomever gets signed at this point plays under the "Juwan Howard rules". In other words, if and when they hit the floor, the game is already over. If Miami relies on any of these guys for significant minutes in a gotta-have-it game, something has gone horribly wrong.

Miamatt...dude c'mon !!!

Below is the current list of guys on Miami that are mid-range and 3 point jump shooters. Some like LBJ and Wade have other skill sets, but they still put up A LOT of jump shots.

Ray Allen, Chalmers, Wade, LBJ, Battier, Haslem, Rashard Lewis, James Jones, Mike Miller and Bosh.

So, out of the 14 current players on the roster 10 are mid range / 3 point shooters !

Adding this dude, who cannot shoot better than ANYBODY on the current roster, would be pointless.

There simply are not enough balls in the gym, for this dude to shoot..... EVER !

The Heat need Big Bodies, that are agile and like to play in and around the paint.....ex: Andray Blatche.

Pat Riley and the crew can help someone like Blatche, with his off court concerns and he can be a model player, in the right system with leaders, like MIA has.

Probably because he is:
1. Undersized
2. No Hops
3. Slow
4. No explosive prowess
5. Plus with Joe Johnson and D.Will on the perimeter and backcourt, his skill set is not needed.

If he grows a pair and learn how to play in the paint (like 6'10" guys are supposed to do) then maybe he might find a spot on someones roster. Otherwise, he has about 2 years MAX, in the league.

They can't sign him because they traded him to the Rockets, who then waived him. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, a player that's traded and waived can't be re-signed by the original team for one year.

Wondering the same. He was playing well before his injury (and porn star stash). Is it because Knicks can't bring him back? I know we traded him and Jeffries in Camby deal, does new CBA stop us from resigning him? Anyone know?

This guy would be a good pickup for a lot of teams assuming he is no longer... fat. He battles down low, has heart (watch him outplay J. Sullinger in the final four), and can make shots. Hope he makes the (any) team.

The Knicks are moving on from him? Sign that man, pronto!

In all seriousness, I think Miami would like another big who can stretch the floor as opposed to just a body to clog the lane and give fouls. Harrellson fits with that. I'd rather have him than Eddie Frickin' Curry at the end of the bench.
