And if Kobe had the field goal percentage up to now what MJ averaged over his entire career, he would have already surpassed him on the point totals list. Again: Jordan outpaces Bryant.

i think by “outpacing” he meant by age. Kobe was in the NBA at 17, so he had a head starrt. But Kobe won championships earlier in career yrs too. Jordan clearly has been “outpaced” by Kobe in some regards.

I’ll go with whatever Phil says. Would take Magic over Kobe. Jerry West, the greatest overall Laker ever, is a close comparison. But what if Kobe gets a couple more championships and finishes 1st or 2nd in all time points? Kobe’s not there but not done either.

MJ was the dominant star from Day 1, won every Finals MVP, and realistically could’ve won several regular season MVPs.

However, I think there are some interesting facts which separate Jordan from Kobe:

- Jordan shot 51.5% and averaged 28.2 pts/game in his rookie season. That’s unheard of. Lebron didn’t come close to those rookie numbers. Kobe averaged 7.6 pts/game and shot 41.7% in his rookie year.

- Kobe walked into a championship-caliber team, while Jordan carried a weak Bulls team when he entered the league.

- Jordan played 15 seasons, two of which were the floundering Wizards years which can safely be written off, and one with a broken foot where he missed 63 games. He also retired prematurely in ’98. He still has 6 rings. Kobe has played 16 seasons with no major injuries on consistently good playoff teams and still only has 5 rings. All of those rings were obtained by having a dominant scoring big man, while Jordan never had one.

- Jordan shot nearly 50% for his career, which, for his position, is incredibly efficient. Kobe has shot around 45%, which, while good, is a significant gap between the two.

Mark Jackson can be heard calling Kobe the best ever after dropping 81 points. I’ve said this before: people tend to be enamored at the time and their memories fade. Scottie Pippen said the same thing about Lebron in the ECF Finals last year until he tanked against Dallas. Jim Boeheim said the same thing about Lebron in the Olympics. It’s not that close.

Then, later someone says that Bryant is a better shooter. By what standard?

Kobe’s good, even great. But nowhere near as good as MJ.

He states, “Take MJ out of it, its not fair to compare him to anyone.”

So we all know that to become greatest you’ll need to surpass Jordan, without including the names like KAJ, Oscar robertson, Bill russell, wilt chamberlain, jerry west etc. How can we say that Kobe is the number 2 greatest player behind Jordan, without considering Oscar Robertson who averaged almost a triple double in his career.

Anyway, I’m not a kobe hater, I really appreciate his talent and skills, but no way he’ll be on my top 10 list

Is this about shooting form? like they have similar form so this is crazy? why is this a big deal? I could make a video showing Allen Iverson making every single one of these shots… maybe even the dunk. Does that mean that Allen Iverson was as great of a player as Jordan? Of course not, because it took Allen 30 shots a game to make those. I’d be impressed if these were iconic Jordan moments that Kobe was mimicking. Where is Kobe pushing off of Paul Milsap (i.e Bryon Russel) and hitting the jumper to beat the Jazz? Where’s Kobe playing with the Flu? Anyone who has played a perimeter position in the NBA has hit at least most of the shots that Jordan made in that video. The fact that Kobe did too, means nothing.

Well, I was never making a direct comparison of Kobe and Jordan like you seem to think, but if you believe that Jordan never was accused of shooting his team out of games, I wonder where you were for his earlier career.

No one is saying that Kobe isn’t ONE of the best ever, top 10. He’s just not THE BEST ever.

Jordan was better across the board, offensively,& defensively.
The stats, awards and mvps bear that out.
But, since he wasn’t a laker, you can’t accept that. That Madam is what’s mind boggling. Facts staring you in the face and you deny, deny, deny.

You fail to mention that Shaq carried those 1st 3 titles as MVP. Kobe was just along for the ride.
