I understand why Kurt would write this article. On the surface, it makes sense to say what he said. But there are a couple points that should be made.

Yes, Norfolk/Virginia Beach is the 43rd largest TV market. However, Richmond is the 57th or 58th biggest market, and is only an hour and a half away. Roanoke/Lynchburg is the 63rd largest market. All three of these markets would be in play for a Virginia-based team, especially if said team is billed as the Virginia Kings (or whatever) a la the Florida Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, Utah Jazz, Carolina Panthers. As in, this team could be a unique rarity for a state accustomed to having DC area sports teams shoved down their throats.

Plus, they would be in a market/region that hasn’t been saturated by more decorated teams. Staying in Sacramento guarantees a 4th place finish in status in California. Even the Clippers have more cachet. In Virginia, they’d be alone.

unlikely? Yes. Crazy? Not entirely.

Is San Jose a viable option? I dont know if there is an arena, but that would at least keep the team in NorCal. Wait! Can HP Pavilion support basketball? I am only assuming since I know hockey and arena football arenas can usually accommodate basketball fairly easily.

I wish this would happen, we need a team in VA, also would this mean that the Kings would be an Eastern Conference team? Wouldn’t that disrupt the 15 teams on each coast’s balance. Anyways if the Kings were an Eastern team they could make the playoffs with ease.

the kings are moving to oakland!!!!……when the golden state warriors move across the bay bridge and become the ‘San Francisco Warriors’ in 5 years then the city of oakland will go calling on the kings to move down I-80 from sacramento to oakland…..great fan base in oakland!!……oh, wait…nevermind…….the nba probably has an agreement that no new team can come in behind the new ‘SF Warriors’….

VA Beach is my hometown and I’d love to see us get a team. may give me a reason to move back. That area deserves a pro team. Attendence would be through the roof.

The Kings should come back to KC, the name already makes sense the Kansas City Kings has an awesome sound to it and the Sprint Center is an awesome venue, I live in Overland Park and would love for an NBA team to come here. They would go down in market size but KC is the 28th largest sports market thats better than 43rd and the fan base here would love them especially with T Rob on the Kings, I go to Royals games whenever the Tigers are in town and Im surprised the crowds Kauffman gets with how crappy the team is, i think the KC would provide a college like atmosphere that OKC has plus some.

The Squires are coming back? Lots of pro athletes are from the VA beach area. Big transient military area. VA Beach and the OBX are great destinations. They could support an NBA team.
