I’m just curious Kurt, honest question…what exactly did Stan Van Gundy do warrant being lumped in with the “didn’t handle this well”? Is it his talking now? Or was it something he did while Howard held the team hostage the last couple years? Because I think it is easy to say that Van Gundy should be quiet, but the fact remains that EVERYTHING he is saying is right. He isn’t hyperbolizing and he isn’t making stuff up. He is telling it like it is. Tony Martins is a fool.

They liked Stan in Orlando just fine while they were winning and going to the NBA finals. Losing and failing to fulfill expectations is what causes locker room discontent.

Back when Rashard and Hedo were playing well, you didn’t hear bad things about Stan because Orlando was winning. Once those two guys started to decline and the Magic front office failed to add adequate replacements, the problems started.

The Magic failed because their GM never surrounded Dwight with adequate talent. Right now, in LA, he’s going to be playing with two guys (Kobe and Gasol) who are both better than any teammate he ever had in Orlando. Had Dwight had a legitimate star or two to help him, the Magic might have won a title and Stan would still have his job.

Every great coach was a nobody at one time until someone gave them a chance. It actually makes Stan and Jeff both look very good that Pat Riley thought so highly of them that he took them under his wing. Obviously Pat saw a great deal of potential in both men.

Stan has taken the Heat to the ECF and the Magic to an NBA finals. Yes, players are the most important thing, but the fact is that Stan has had nothing but well above average teams in both the jobs he’s had. You can’t deny him the credit for that.

If either of the Van Gundy brothers could coach basketball as well as they whine they would be coaching in the NBA. The sad fact is both of them are great at making excuses and lousy at accountability and accepting blame. The Magic players, not just Howard, wanted SVG gone. His style of berating players just doesn’t fly with today’s athletes and while Dwight Howard may have been the one to grease the wheels for Stan’s train out of town it was just a matter of time till he lost the whole team. Now we can all look forward to another Van Gundy doing color broadcasting on the TV. Oh Goody!

I tend to agree with SVG. The team decided to place their support on a piec of number 2 and that got them nowhere. They should have dumped Dwightmare. They sure as heck didn’t get much for him in the end, except a migraine headache.

Am sure you are comfortable with players speaking their mind; Van gundy was a sorry high school coach until Pat Riley put him and his brother under his wings. Name one player Van gundy ever developed in Miami or Orlando. Nba is a players league where the players make the coach except Larry Brown. Having your team jack up 3′s and leave all the defense to one player is not a trademark of a good coach.

He replaced you with a guy with zero coaching experience it is a slap in the face. Maybe when he fires this guy and says “there was enough winning” you can say “yeah because I did more”! Rip them, take them apart, air all the dirty laundry of the Magic front office. Make them eat there stupidity for breakfast Stan get a new team and bet the Magic by 50!!

Why is the media and a lot of fans so uncomfortable with someone speaking his mind? Stan Van isn’t a typical coach, he’s better than that. Doesn’t anyone get sick of cliched coaches, they’re all vanilla on purpose and it’s not genuine? Even if you don’t like what he says, you should respect the fact he’s willing to say what he wants.

Normally when a coach get’s fired it’s a good idea to go away quietly , but Orlando’s management has been so stupid, so inept at every level, I think Van Gundy’s very public criticism of Magic management is warranted, and will ultimately be good for franchise. Sometimes you’ve got to tell it like it is. Tony Martin’s is just clueless when it comes to running a NBA team – just dumb all of the time – I don’t think Martin could successfully run a dunk booth at a carnival. He makes one bad decision after another, can’t handle players, coaching staff, the media, he is a total loser at every level. Magic needs to get some professional basketball people to run the show, Martin is running team into ground.

Stan Van Jeremy is just saying what everyone already knows. Management was stupid, did stupid things, and now their fan base will suffer for a long time because of it.
He’s not hurting his future employment one bit. He’s a good coach, there’s always a place for someone like that.

One of Dwight’s first dirtball acts was the “if things change, I’d want to stay” nonsense because that was where Orlando’s move went from trying to have a solid team to rebound from trading Dwight with to doing whatever it took to keep Dwight because in their perspective it’d be easier to pack a new arena with a superstar player than a middling at best team. I get why Stan’s mad at them because they chose a player that didn’t even stay over him, but they did so believing (under deceptive circumstances) it was their best hope to keep a superstar franchise player.

Also I remember this happening in a much more mutinous way to Brian Hill & he didn’t trash the organization. In fact I recall he even came back to coach again prior to Stan getting hired.

I would think some owner would want a coach with winning record, saying it needs to be a team first attitude in the locker room…..

But what about a superstar, coming from a team that would do whatever he desired to make him happy, to a team loaded with star talent, who will just laugh at him when he tries that stuff in their locker room? A complete reverse from what he is used too, kinda seems like it maybe dysfunctional…..

The old saying among coaches is “you get hired to be fired”. I doubt that’s true of owners/management. Even though it’s obviously rarely the case, management looks to hire someone who WILL be with them forever. Look at Phil Jackson, first in Chicago, then in LA. Look at Popovich in San Antonio. Red Auerbach in Boston. Jerry Sloan, same thing with the Jazz. Long-term. That’s the ideal. Unfortunately it’s the exception not the rule when it actually plays out that way. I doubt SVG’s ranting will have any effect on him getting another gig. I just think management looks beyond that type of thing.

Look anyone with half a brain can look from the outside and see that the Magic’s Front Office is a terrible terrible joke. SVG is just like his brother. They tell it how it is. Wish there was more of that. SVG is too good of a coach to have this hurt his job chances.
