Video: A reminder, the Wolves were fun, are fun, will be fun

Aug 18, 2012, 9:01 PM EDT

The Timberwolves shook off all the doldrums and depressing mediocrity last year. Behind Kevin Love taking yet another leap forward and Ricky Rubio living up to the loftiest of expectations, along with Rick Adelman actually getting everyone on the same page, the Wolves were running and gunning every night. They were winning games until Rubio’s injury and played exciting, dynamic basketball.

Next year, sure there are questions. Rubio has to get back completely healthy. Love has to stay engaged and not boil over with frustration if things go poorly. They have to find someone to replace Michael Beasley. OK, I was kidding about that last one.

But sine it’s been four months since we’ve seen the Timberwolves, perhaps a reminder of just how fun they are. From’s YouTube channel, here’s a great reason to look forward the Wolves’ season.

This is going to be a solid top to bottom team this year.

    PG: Rubio, Ridnour, Barea
    SG: B-Roy, Aleksey Shved
SF: Andrei Kirelenko, Chase Budinger, Derrick Williams
    PF: Kevin Love, Dante Cunningham
    C: Nikola Pekovic, Greg Stiemsma

    Etc: Robbie Hummel

Rubio, Brandon Roy, AK-47, Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic can go with any starting 5 in the league.

I really like this team as well… Playoff time for the Wolves!!!

The only one I’m going to miss watching is Wesley Johnson!!

      He’s a great player!

Did you just use “great player” as a way to describe Wes Johnson?!

Just a reminder: The Wolves were at .500 and not on pace to make the playoffs when Rubio got hurt last season. They’re now going to depend more on a young PG coming off a massive injury, a SG coming off retirement and a series of career-ending injuries (think about this for a second), a SF coming back from Russia whose last close-to-full NBA season was 2003-04, and 2 bigs who are certainly good but who can’t play defense, and the bigs are always the backbone of a team’s defense.

If somehow no one gets injured, and Kirilenko and Stiemsma make a huge impact on the team’s D without cutting into anyone’s minutes or offense, I guess then they’ll be a relevant–not just fun to watch–club.

Good article and great reminder; basketball should be fun and entertaining to watch. You don’t have to be a ‘fan’ of a team to enjoy their game. T-Wolves were one of those teams, just plain fun to watch. Doesn’t matter what seed they are – we have a whole season of games to enjoy. When winning it all is the ultimate goal, getting there is most of the fun.

Thanks for the article and the link to the video, can’t wait for the season to start, and a healthy return of Rubio……hopefully not to long after.

Late lottery team, unless Roy can comeback strong.

  8. uptmonsta - Aug 19, 2012 at 5:45 PM

“Fun” leads you straight to lottery land. Rubio won’t be 100 % until about the 25 game or so and he’s overrated anyway. And Roy will only be a shell of himself. The Wolves will have to be very lucky to land that 8th seed.

    • purpleprideinps - Aug 19, 2012 at 11:35 PM

HATE MUCH? Overrated? He was sixth in assists per game and second in steals per game…as a rookie! You sound like one of those silly little Blazers fans. And you have no idea what Roy will be this year. LOSER!!!

“Fun” is something this beggar Wolves fan isn’t going to be caught choosing. I’LL TAKE IT
