Frankly, Melo is good (sometime great) scorer, that’s about it. He is pretty bad in all other category including PR talking. For his own good, he really needs to shut up about the Linsanity-Melo thing now, otherwise he will continue doing damage to his image.

When I see a player holding the ball, then pulling the trigger every time, I call that selfish.
He also doesn’t give a crud about playing defense.
I will visit you Carmelo lovers in here next May when he leads his team to a first or second round (at most) exit.

OK lets stop scraping on melo, he is hands down top 5 player in the NBA. he might not ever when a ring, but there are many of the great players in NBA history that never one a ring. he’s a good guy and plays at a high level. I enjoy watching his game. and if we just talk about rings then it down plays the 82 games that fans like myself enjoy to go see. every one wants a ring but enjoy the sport instead of nitpicking the athletes

I do think that that’s a little different. It’s easier to ride one player and win it all. I can’t see a reasonable scenario where Carmelo is the 2nd option, or even split it and go 1A and 1B. He has Amare, who is probably a little overrated, and he can’t really split shots with him. Carmelo is a very good talent though, but he’s definitely missing something.

Melo iz a baller!! he needs a pg who he can trust handling the rock! Him and Chauncey worked great together and only reason he didnt advance more in the playoffs was because of Kobe and co. Ppl quit hating on melo!! He is the best offensive player In the league! No not Durant or LeBron..MELO! inside outside post up face up you name it he’ll do it.

Great and JR Smith do not belong in the same sentence, and Amare was there well before Melo. I strongly doubt Chris Paul will “do almost anything to play with him” either, Paul is staying put because he knows that is his best chance to win a championship.

Melo is a very good basketball player who could easily be one of the best in the game but he stubbornly thinks isos are going to win him a championship even though that’s what he has done his whole career.He hasn’t won anything, nor will he until he learns to play good team basketball.

The media has nothing to do with any of these facts, they just are.

Melo selfish is all media hype. Name 1 player that has said he was selfish , actually all his teammates call him a great teammate. So great that players like JR Smith followed him to NY , Chris Paul will do almost anything to play with him & Amarè Stoudamire new he was coming before he ever came. So selfish doesn’t exist with him. These are facts not media hype learn to separate bloggers , paper sellers from the truth.

I think at this point Carmelo has become one of the most underrated players in the league. Most fans here don’t know what they are talking about, probably the same guys who call kobe selfish. Instead of looking at the box score, try watching the game and appreciate that carmelo is a killer scorer, and there really is not much more talent on the team. I think he’s just not that great at defense, but calling him selfish because he shoots a lot is misinformed.

Look how great he’s playing on the USA team. If he was surrounded with some more offensive talent in new york maybe he would be more efficient and shoot less. And as for his field goal percentage, it’s easy to focus your defense on melo when the other players you have to gameplan for have no talent on offense and amare isn’t scaring anybody either.

Also, he is a winner, but it takes a team to win a game. At the end of the game, he has that clutch factor and he can score, which is what so many teams need. He’s only one guy though, and similar to T-Mac, you can’t judge one guy because he hasn’t advanced far in the playoffs.

He will never win a championship. May never go past the first round of the playoffs. He and Amare can’t play together. That’s a fact.

God some of these comments on here are stupid! The whole “Melo is selfish” crap is the same crap that was said about MJ before he had Pippen, Kobe Phil showed up and again until Pau showed. Not saying he’s even as good as either one but no player gets a team out the 1st round…the TEAM gets out the 1st round. The ONE year the nuggets where actually any good they finished the season in the WCF. A real PG (billups…not A.I.) and for once Nene & k-mart weren’t on the IR. That, along with Melo’s play got them there. He hasn’t played on a team that good since. Another thing. The Knicks didn’t lose games bc he couldn’t figure out how to play with Lin…D’antoni (you know…the head coach) couldn’t figure out how to make Melo play with Lin. Under Woodsen, they went 8-1…together. Two wins where blow outs against Indiana. They played just fine together when everyone was healthy. Like ALL good players, Melo needs a good team built around him to get deep in the post season. This knick team is by far the most talent he’s ever played with in his entire career. he’s a scorer…so…he scores a lot. That doesn’t make him “selfish”. Lin went down & Amare went down…that’s about 32 points per game on the IR when he was dropping 40 every other game late in the season…what else was he suppose to do??? Pass it to Jarred Jeffries???? C’mon man!

@sellahh, if Melo had been traded to the LAKERS for Bynum, as he almost was, he would’ve been the 2nd option to Kobe. I believe he could’ve been perfect in that role for a 2-3 seasons until Kobe relinquished the reins. That being said, I’m glad the LAKERS didn’t make that deal, even though I think Melo is a great player.

Melo being 2nd option on a team is no way possible, Durant and LBJ are never teaming up with him and I can’t think of many scorers better than Melo at PG and Center positions…
