Report: Knicks like Kenyon Martin, but he wants to be paid

The Knicks would like to add a backup power forward to the roster, someone who can come in off the bench and give them some energy, defense and a few points.

There are a few guys out there, but the Kenyon Martin seems to fit pretty well with the Knicks style and what they want to do. But… there’s a complication, tweets Jared Zwerling of ESPN:

Regarding Kenyon Martin, out of available PFs, he’d make most sense for NYK. Versatile, knows Melo/JR. But source says won’t sign for min.

The Knicks are only really handing out minimum deals the rest of the way, as are most teams at this point in the summer. Rosters are pretty much set and there are only a few spots on a few teams for more than the minimum.

Martin’s options are drying up — the Warriors were interested but they signed Carl Landry, and the Clippers have moved on. Martin can wait this out until training camp starts, looking for some team to give him a piece of their mid-level exception. But he may have some less than ideal options to choose from when it comes time.

Wildly off-topic but, why is the “Skip To Comments” button about a quarter inch above the comments section?

apparently i am wrong cause i thought the roster was set and full

Knew from the first time I heard his name mentioned that he won’t be coming here for the vet minimum like those coattail riders did in Miami.

And I could have thought, with all the guys we’ve signed, that we were at the 15-man maximum already ha.

well i was wrong there is a spot open, i am content with the team so i didn’t do a head count until now. K-mart could do a lot worse than signing with us on the cheap, at this stage in his career you’d think that it would not be about a buck. reunite with J Kidd an finish strong should be important. but like i said i am pretty content

Please. That chump STOLE about 80 million dollars from the Nuggets. Dude should play for free for the rest of his life.

Anyone else surprised to see a story about a current clipper player that doesn’t want to leave unless he gets “paid”?

That would be such a niiice piece for NY. Funny, if they woulda kept Chauncy they would have the entire Nuggets starting 5 (insert JR for AI though) 4-5 years ago.

I hope he goes there. That would make things MUCH more interesting out East. It would be the best Knicks defense we’ve seen since the days of Ewing, Oakley, Mason and ‘em.
