Greg Stiemsma formally signs deal with Timberwolves

Minnesota essentially swapped out Darko Milicic for Greg Stiemsma. That sounds like an upgrade to me.

We’ve known about Stiemsma coming to Minnesota for a while, but he officially put pen to paper on Thursday and was introduced to the Minnesota media. This is a two-year deal although there is a team option for the second year.

Stiemsma will come off the bench behind Nikola Pekovic, where he’ll blocks some shots, pick up some fouls and generally work really hard. All of which will win him fans. Just like in Boston they will love the Wisconsin native.

This is a great fit for the Wolves, it’s one of a few roster upgrades they have made this summer (adding Brandon Roy, plus Chase Budinger and more). This is a borderline playoff team in the West if they can stay healthy and come together under Rick Adelman. Well, that and play some defense. Which is where Stiemsma helps out.

Stiemsma’s move to Minnesota is one of the most overlooked and underrated signings this summer considering what he brings to a frontcourt defense (and ultimately the team’s D) that is non-existent with earth-bound bigs Kevin Love and Nikola Pekovic.

The Wolves were a “borderline playoff team” last year before injuries hit. This year I think they’re a lock to make the playoffs. K Love, Rubio and Roy (if healthy) are the only big names on this roster, but they are solid from top to bottom. Anything less than a 6th seed is probably a dissapointment this season.

They need one more big to round out the bench and they’re set. I’m hearing that there’s probably one more move coming after the olympics.

Yeah, the signing of a guy with the knees of an 80 year old and Greg Steimsma really propels the Wolves into the playoffs….

Yep, and the dumb get dumber. Congrats on being the biggest idiot on this site. That’s quite the accomplishment.

You’re quite the asshat, you know that?

The playoff race will definatly be fun out west this year. I think the thunder, spurs, lakers, clippers, and grizzlies are definatly locks to make it. That leaves dallas, denever, utah, minnesota, golden state, and maybe new orleans fighting for the last 3 spots. But honestly I think the same teams will probably make it that did last year even though i’m rooting against it

You can argue Khans draft failures but he has continuously been improving this team. You cant win a title with out first getting to the playoffs.
