Reason is simple: I don’t think NBA players respect NBA coaches for the most part, unless it’s THEIR NBA coach. I think the reason Coach K has been so successful is because the NBA players’ egos don’t affect him. I think you take a top-tier college coach, especially one with a lean toward defense, and the success continues. Tom Crean at Indiana would be another solid choice.

I’d put D’antoni on the list as he’s also an assistant but he wouldn’t create the defense first mentality that they NEED to win. He’d definitely have USA setting world & olympic records for most 3 pointers shot though!
