Nate Robinson not hurt in gunfire at legendary Rucker Park

Jul 26, 2012, 10:49 AM EDT

NBA players swing by Rucker Park — the legendary Harlem playground pickup game/summer league — during he offseason. Heck, during the lockout last summer it was like an NBA camp out there for a while.

Nate Robinson was there Wednesday watching from the sidelines and was fortunate to escape gunfire that injured five people, according to the New York Daily News.

Five people were shot on a Harlem basketball court Wednesday night during an annual basketball tournament, officials and witnesses said…

“They started arguing, about a bad call or something like that,” said Rodney Harris, 47. “The guy was standing no more than five feet away from me. He pulled a gun out of his pocket and shot once. He then shot one more time. Everyone started running.”

All five people were treated at area hospitals and nothing was life threatening. So there’s that.

The Daily News has some cell-phone video of the chaos that followed the shots.

If you pull a gun on a bad pick-up game call, you have some serious issues.

not the first time some idiot gambling on a game gets mad at refs call, it takes a REAL hardrock to shoot up a ball game with a bunch of innocent bystanders who are unarmed.

I used to sell liquor to the stores in that area in the 80’s, Always gunfights there. The Brady Gun Bill should have had a requirement that you must prove your IQ is above 50 to get a gun license. The lower class primates that have guns in Harlem would never qualify. But That’s why Riker’s Island is Harlem East. NYC gun law is a joke. Ask Plax bout dat sh*t.I remember when Cris Mullins was playing ball in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park and some black dude pulled a knife on him and Chris’ black team mate grabbed a gun out of his bag and told the perp he was toast if he didn’t busta move.Sucker2C.Nate should go back to playing football.

Glad to hear Nate was ‘unhurty’ in the incident.

      Ebonics at it’s best!

  13. cornbreadbbqred - Jul 27, 2012 at 5:57 PM

If Nate had proven he could play defense, he could have been participating in Showtime with the Lakers, rather than spectating with the peanut gallery at Ruckers this summer! I tell you, the crowd has always been hard of the refs at that tournament!
